"Boo!"
Right as the yell rang through my ears, two hands clapped down on my shoulders, intending to scare me.
A chuckle escaped my lips. I didn't glance back over my shoulder, but just continued getting the right books for my next classes out of my dark blue locker, which was identical to all the other ones.
"Daniel, how many more times are you going to try that? I could smell you even before you entered the building," I told him, a grin playing on my lips as I slammed my locker shut, which made him close his eyes in a flinch.
"Sorry," I said quickly, realising how sensitive his ears must be because of the full moon tonight.
"No big deal, oh, and I'll keep trying it until it works," he told me, his adorable tooth gap showing as he flashed me a smile.
As I slung my backpack over my shoulder I turned around to face him, meeting his teasing smile and bright blue eyes. My own brown ones narrowed slightly as I scanned over his features. The yellow beanie that covered up his dark brown hair matched with his black hoodie and ripped jeans, checkered Vans finishing off the look. He looked normal.
"You look oddly calm, considering the full moon will be up in a few hours," I stated, my tone giving away that I was clearly surprised. "I didn't even expect you to be at school today."
"Yeah, me neither," he chuckled lightly. "But I felt good, like I'm the one in control."
The corners of my mouth lifted up as I felt happy for the state my best friend was in. All his features were calm, no golden spots in his ocean blue eyes that signalled he was going to shift. Like he said, he was completely in control. He was getting the hang of being a werewolf.
"And besides, people were starting to point out I only got sick at the end of the month," he continued, making quotation marks with his fingers at the word 'sick' with a playful glistening in his eyes. "Luckily they didn't realise that's only because of that big round ball up in the sky."
I chuckled at his words. "So, how about Lexa?" I asked him about his one year younger sister, knowing she struggled a lot more with her powers than Daniel.
"She did stay home," he answered, his eyes scanning over all the teenagers that passed by us in the busy hallway of Beacon Hills High School.
I nodded. "That's probably for the best."
I couldn't help but look at my distracted best friend with admiration. Lexa and Daniel had joined our pack only three months ago. Right after their terrible car crash, which had almost cost them their lives.
Three months ago they had got into a car crash, both of their wounds being fatal. That's when Jonah decided to give them the bite, after Jack and I begged him to save our friends by turning them into werewolves.
My mind went back to that horrible event, every part of it still evident in my memory. Me and my brother were there when the accident happened, driving in the car behind them. And while I looked at Daniel's face, I could still remember the blood dripping down his body, even though he was fully healed by now. Not even a single scar could be spotted as a leftover from what had happened.
But while they recovered from their wounds, they were met with new problems. The bite saved their lives, but being newly bitten concluded in them having a lot of control issues.
Especially during the full moon.
Daniel learned fast, accepting his new werewolf side as a second nature. His sister though, had a bit more trouble with that. But the progress they had made in those three months was unbelievable.
