My heart skipped a beat.
Quickly, I turned my head down, my mind immediately trying to come up with an explanation for why they were glowing. "Zach, I-"
"Why... Ri, they're the most mesmerising, beautiful eyes I've ever seen."
My tensed up shoulders slunk down in relief. Letting my eyes flutter shut, I let out a deep breath I hadn't realised I had been holding in. With his words ringing through my head, I realised I hadn't seen him through my heat vision, which meant my eyes hadn't been glowing at all. When I looked up at him again, a smug, sideways grin was playing on his lips.
A blush formed on my cheeks and the smile returned to my face. Clasping my hands around his neck, I gently pulled him closer to me.
As soon as I placed my lips on his, I felt him smile.
He moved his hands a few inches up till they rested on my waist, his touch as soft as his kiss.
When we both pulled back, he rested his forehead against mine, tugging a strand of hair behind my ear.
Our bodies stayed close to each other as we swayed along to the slow music.
I leaned my head against his chest, my cheek resting against his collarbone. Listening to his steady heartbeat, mixed with Ed Sheeran's voice, I felt myself getting lost in his presence.
Even though we were surrounded by more than ten other couples, he was the only person that existed to me right now.
Both of us jumped as a sharp ringtone suddenly rang through the air, breaking the comfortable silence between us.
Zach breathed out harshly as he leaned back.
I watched him take his phone out of his pocket and scan over the caller's ID.
He drew his bottom lip between his teeth, an apologising look forming in his hazel eyes. "Um, I uh-"
Smiling softly, I kissed his cheek. "It's okay. I'll go get us some drinks, take your time."
I read the appreciation off his face before turning around, giving him some privacy. As I squeezed myself through the dancing people, I made my way over to the table with drinks in the corner.
After I had poured two cups of Coca Cola, I leaned with my back against the table, sipping of my drink while scanning over the crowd and waiting for Zach to finish his call.
It didn't take me long to spot my brother's familiar curly hair. He was talking to a girl somewhere in the back, drinks in their hands and smiles on their faces.
As was Jonah, who was laughing at something that Allison had said.
I pushed myself off the table and back onto my feet as I didn't see Lexa and Corbyn anywhere. With the worry immediately setting in, I let my eyes wander over the people once more, searching for the tall blond and the dark haired girl.
I was startled by someone else popping up by my side.
"Hey."
When I turned my head and was met with my best friend's electric blue eyes, my mouth fell open in surprise. "Daniel, you came!"
