All I did was blink.
The gun didn't scare me. The look in his eyes did.
I saw Jack step forward in the corner of my eye, a growl leaving his lips and his eyes lighting up. "You son of a-"
Zach reacted within a second.
The five of us jumped as the gunshot rang through the air, the loud sound attacking our supernatural hearing even more.
My widened eyes shot to my brother, scanning over him to check if he was hurt. The bulled was stuck in the tree right next to him, just inches away from his head.
Jack gaped at Zach as he had nearly killed him without thinking twice.
"Don't move," Zach ordered in a low voice.
"Zach-" I started, the shock written all over my face.
"Shut up!" He moved the gun back to me, immediately threatening to put a bullet in my brain.
Swallowing, I pressed my lips together into a thin line. I exchanged looks with the others. They were just as shocked as I was, panic showing on their features.
As long as Zach pointed a gun at Lexa and at me, they couldn't do anything without risking us to get hurt. Or get killed.
Our attention shifted from Zach as we heard footsteps approaching.
Another figure appeared at Zach's side. He was built musclier and seemed older than him. He was heavily armed. The end of the rifle he was carrying moved between the five of us.
"So we are dealing with a whole pack of these disasters," his strong voice boomed through the forest. "And you just found them all. Good job, son."
Zach didn't respond, his jaw tightening as he looked at me.
For a split second, his invisible shield faded and I saw the disappointment, hurt and betrayal in his eyes.
Immediately he made them vanish, every feature on his face hardening. "Eben is dead," he stated coldly, referring to the body next to him. "She killed him."
The clicking of a gun being cocked followed and Zach placed his finger on the trigger, only one small movement away from shooting Lexa.
Jonah showed his glowing red Alpha eyes and both Corbyn and Daniel took a step forward at the action, but the gun shifting to them made them freeze.
Zach's dad let his gaze linger over all of us. As he concluded that his son had power over us and the situation was under control, he slung the riffle over his shoulder and kneeled down next to the dead guy. Placing his fingers in Eben's neck to check for a heartbeat, he said: "so shoot them. All of them."
I desperately searched for Zach's eyes, silently begging him to stop. My vision became blurry due to the tears that were building up inside my eyes. "Zach, don't," I said softly, blinking fiercely. "Please don't do this."
He bit his bottom lip, shifting the gun to me again. This time, his hand was shaking, his knuckles turning white from his strong grip around the weapon.
The father looked back at his son. "Do you know her?" He asked sharply.
Zach's jaw clenched together, the gun moving along to his trembling fingers. "Not anymore."
"Then what are you waiting for?"
It felt like an imaginary hand clasped itself around my throat, its firm grasp cutting off my oxygen and making me hold my breath.
He was going to shoot me.
I looked into his eyes, a tear streaming down my face. "Zach, please." My words were barely audible, stuffed up with desperateness.
