"Eighteen.Nineteen.Twenty."she breathed as she lowered herself once more on the ground. She turned on her back and sat up trying to calm her heart from the second set of push-ups she had just done.
A weird feeling was churning inside her stomach since the night before. She could swear that she had heard buzzing like how a bee did when it came close to her ear.She couldn't find the thing though that made that sound. She imagined that either Lila or Cooper had came to her room and left a toy open and buzzed a few times.
But still not being able to find the main cause of the sound really pulled her out of her clothes. She breathed once more before turning her body again and positioning her hands on the same line with her shoulders. The soft grass tickled her fingers as she leaned her whole weight to her toes and hands.Inhale.Lower.Exhale.Raise.
She repeated for twenty more times until her muscles started to burn. But the questions didn't stop to pop up even when she tried to focus on keeping her body steady on the floor. She sighed in annoyance as she fully lied down to the grass again. Her chest moving up and down, and her dark green T-shirt already sweaty.
"Something on your mind?"Clint asked as he approached his daughter that was flat against the grass.
"Just exercising."She replied as she raised her body on her elbows. The man lowered himself on the floor with a sound of pain, from his back obviously, and looked at her.The look he gave her showed her that he didn't believe her.
Maybe it was her face that gave out that something was bothering her or the fact that she had been outside since this morning. It was spring obviously she was going to enjoy the weather before it got too extremely hot."Well,I was wondering,"she started as she played with some of the grass beneath her fingers."When are you going back on a mission?"
"Didn't you made a whole attempt on stopping me from going away for so long when you followed me two years ago?"Clint asked with slight scoff, while lowering his eyebrows just slightly at her deadpanned face.
"Dad,"Valerie said in a kind of annoyed tone."You went on two missions, only, the last two years and you were barely missing for a week in each."she took in a small breath."Plus you didn't take me with you."she muttered the last part quietly.
"What?"her father asked as he seemed to have heard her.Valerie didn't meet his gaze."Valerie, going on these missions isn't a game.People get killed.Do you know how many of them got lost and are still missing ever since the attack on New York?Too many."his tone was firm but he wasn't yelling or talking loudly, his words just sounded harsh on her ears.He also had called her by her full name which in parent language it meant he was serious one hundred percent.
"I know, okay,I know."she said as she closed her eyes once and then opened them again, turning her gaze towards him."If you remember I killed too. When I started to shoot a bow the first thing you told me to do was to know who my opponent was.We shoot if he's bad we leave if he's good."she pushed herself to sit up."And when Natasha came here she told me the same with the exception not to feel sorry. She taught me how.You told her to taught me how.If they were bad guys they deserved it."
"You don't understand the consequences."Clint shook his head.
"Dad,it's been two years!"she exclaimed her hazel eyes wild."Nobody remembers who I am,and nobody even knows how I look like, they don't even know my actual name!"she raised her hands in the air.
"That's a reason more for you to stay here."Clint said his voice slightly raising as well."This house was built for this reason, for me to protect all of you."
"Ugh!"Valerie made an angry noise as she got up."I'm tired of you and mom treating me like a child!I'm tired of just staying here and my only outing being out here or in strict privacy!"
