Chapter 3: The Nightmare That is a Pool Party

Amelia's POV

After final period, I bolted out of maths class to go find Michael, but I was stopped by a surprising face. 'Twas Seth Irwin. I've only talked to him a few times, but other than that I've admired him from afar. Yes, I had a huge crush on him. Ever since I first saw him Year 7. When he came to my house on Halloween, of course I wanted to go with him, but I couldn't abandon my friends.

So I saw him and nearly freaked. I felt my face get all red and embarassed. "Hi," I smiled.

"Hey, Amy," he responed. "So, I was wondering if you want to go to my party this weekend?"

Woah... I hate parties.... but I like Seth... CONFLICTED! "Uh, sure," I replied. "I'd love to."

"Great," he said with a smile. "It's pool party so bring a bathing suit."

I nodded and he left... the hell??? I HATE to swim nonetheless swimming parties!!! Ergh!!!

Ugh, just be cool, Amelia. Be cool...

Amelia's POV

On Monday I received my invitation from Seth, and that was pretty cool. So on Thursday, which is today, I got curious about the guest list. So I called my people.

I dialed Michael and he instantly picked up within a second. "Hey, Amelia," he answered.

"Hey, Michael," I said, "I was just wondering if we could ride together on Saturday?"

There was a moment of silence on the other line. "What's Saturday?" he questioned.

"Seth's party," I responded like it was obvious.

"Oh," he said solemnly. "I didn't exactly get invited."

I bit my lip. How embarrassing... and humiliating... I feel awful now. I have to think of something. "Well, you can go as my plus one!" I quickly optimized.

"You can do that?" Michael asked with excitement in his voice.

"I don't see why not," I replied.

"Awesome! Send me the info and I'll plan around that," he informed me.

"Okay, bye, see you tomorrow," I concluded hanging up. I then quickly called Lia to see if she wanted Michael to pick her up too. "Hey, Lia."

"What the hell do you want?" she answered.

"I just wanted to ask if you want Michael to pick you up for Seth's party?" I wondered.

"Seth's having a party?" she asked. "Why wasn't I invited?"

Great... another lost soul... "Oh, sorry I thought you were going," I apologized.

"Uh, I'm going," Lia told me matter-of-factly, "as you're guest."

"Actually, Michael is coming as my guest," I muttered.

"Why him?" she asked. "He's not even moderately attractive. I seriously don't know why you're friends with him."

"He's been my best friend since Year 7, Lia," I explained. "Sorry, but he comes first."

She groaned. "What ever happened to hoes before bros?" Lia asked.
