Michael's Apartment
Michael's POV
I haven't said anything to her since yesterday. I don't know what came over me, but I was in a deep funk and I couldn't get out of it. I decided to skip work today so I just stayed in my room and strummed my guitar.
While just sitting there I had a sudden burst of inspiration. I had suddenly thought of fantastic lyrics to the music I wrote.
I finished writing the song and played it a few times. As I was just starting to play the song yet another time, my phone buzzed. I looked at the caller ID and saw it was Mrs. Oswald. Why was she calling me?
I picked up the phone and answered it. "Hello?" I asked.
"Michael? This is Mrs. Oswald," she greeted.
"Yes, what do you need?"
"I need you to- How fast can you get over here?" she wondered.
"Probably in ten-fifteen minutes," I responded with a shrug.
"Great, see you then," Mrs. Oswald then hung up on me.
I wasn't sure what was happening so I thought I better go over there. I put on my Rolling Stones shirt and black jeans and headed out the door. I got in my car and arrived at the Oswalds' around 7:15.
I pulled up and went straight up to the front door. Before I could even knock on the door, Mrs. Oswald opened it. She then pointed up the stairs. "She's in her room," she said.
"Isn't she supposed to be at prom?" I asked. She didn't answer me, she just pushed me towards the stairs.
I slowly went up the stairs and went down the hall to Amelia's room. Her door was closed, which it never was, and it seemed dark in their. I knocked on the door unsure of what to do.
"Mum, I said I'm not going!" Amelia yelled from the other side. It sounded like she's been crying for a while.
"It's me," I replied. There was no response, so I was confused of what to do.
"Go inside," Mrs. Oswald whispered as she came up the stairs. Then she went into her room on the other side of the hall.
I hesitantly opened the door to Amelia's room and went inside. As soon as I walked in I saw Amelia sitting on the floor in a thick strapped hot pink ruffly dress with a black sash. There were black tears stains all down her face as she looked up at me as if she had lost everything.
"You were right," was all she said before breaking out in a fit of more tears again.
I sighed and sat down next to her. I rubbed her back and looked at her. "What happened?" I asked trying not to smirk at my correct prediction.
"He told me that he didn't want to go with me after all because the head cheerleader asked him," she explained. "And this happened at the time he was supposed to pick me up."
I pulled her into a tight hug and she hugged back. "Now I'm not going," she said into my shoulder.
I then let go of her and stood up. She looked up at me as I held out my hand for her to grab. "Get up," I instructed.
"Why?" she asked as one more tear slid down her face.
"Just get up," I repeated. She grabbed my hand and I pulled her up. "Go clean yourself up. The only thing worse than going to prom alone is not going at all. If you don't go, then Seth will win. He'll win because he broke you, and that shouldn't happen because Amelia Rose Oswald is the strongest person in the world. I am going to take you to prom and we are going to have a fantastic time because Seth can't win this."
