I woke up to sunlight shining on my face. I had forgotten to close the curtains yesterday evening. I groaned and got out of bed.
I took a shower and Put on fresh clothes. I made breakfast and started eating.

A knock came on my door. I figured it was someone from the Akatsuki. I opened the door to find the orange masked guy waiting for me.

I figured this would happen.

I opened the door wide and leaned on the door frame.

'What do you want?'

'Why didn't you get the eight-tails?'

'I don't know what you're talking about.'

'Don't play dumb.'

That was exactly what I was doing, idiot.

'I'm not, I don't know what you're talking about.'

'I'm asking for the last time. Why didn't you got the eight tails?'

'I did! I got him to the Hidden Rain!'

'It was a clone.'

I pretended to be shocked.

'Impossible.'

'You let him escape.'

'How could I? I didn't even know it was a clone!'

Silence.

'Sasuke tells me that you had your Sharingan on the whole time.'

'No, I didn't have it on for the whole time, it was on only during the fight and I put it off towards the end after using Amaterasu.'

'Didn't you even notice that it was a clone? Didn't you put your Sharingan on even once after the fight?'

I looked at him in stubborn finality.

'No.'

'Very well, then. I have sent Pain to capture the nine-tails, and your failure has put us behind schedule. I will expect better performance in the future. You have a Sharingan, use it.'

I was vaugely aware of the last two sentences. I didn't even see him leave.

PAIN HAD GONE TO CAPTURE NARUTO.

WHAT. THE. HELL.

I was a blur around the apartment as I packed my stuff. I had decided that enough was enough. 

I was leaving the Akatsuki.

I shouldn't have joined in the first place. 

I ran to the roof of my apartment and did the handsigns for my teleportation jutsu.

Just before I could finish the last handsign, someone caught my arm.

'Sasuke,' I growled. 'Where are you going?' he asked, all casual, as if nothing was wrong. 'What do you mean?' I shouted. 'The Hidden Leaf is under attack by someone who posses the Rinnegan! And you're asking me where I'm going?!'

He chuckled.

I pulled my arm from his grip. 'Don't make me fight you, you know who's going to win.' He smirked. 'That's what you think.'

'Oh really?' I asked. 'Playing it smug now? Thinking you can beat me with conversation, Sasuke?' He shook his head. 'I'm not here to prevent you from going,' he stated. 'I'm here to ask you something.' My eyes shot daggers at him. 'Just spit it out, then. I don't have time for any of this.' He shook his head slowly, like he was amused by my behavior. I just continued to glare at him, too frustrated to say anything.

'I'm here to ask you to join team Taka.'

I didn't process his words at first.

'Excuse me?'

'You heard me.'

I huffed. 'I'll consider it.' I had more important things to do right now. 'Bye, Sasuke.' For now. It was inevitable that we would meet again.

I was standing on the Hokage Mountain, looking down at what remained of Konoha, my home.

I was too late.

Too many of my friends were gone.

The battle was over.

I didn't even know if Naruto was alive.

I have failed.

In everything that I had wanted to accomplish.

With a strangled cry, I took a huge leap over the huge dome that once was a flat land containing the Village of Konoha, and ran into the forest.

By leaving, I had destroyed my home.
