When I opened my eyes, I was staring at the faces of the people I loved most.

'Hey,' Naruto said. 'Are you feeling all right?'

I nodded. Well, I had a migraine, but that could be ignored. I noticed I was back on the battlefield.

'Who bought me back?' I asked. 'I did,' Sasuke said, quietly. I realized he didn't want to draw attention to himself, now that the war was over. But a second later, he dismissed the thought.

'What happened?' he asked, curious. 'All I could see was barren land.'

I rolled my eyes. 'Even with the Rinnegan the Sage of the Six Paths gave you?'

He looked sheepish under his mask of indifference, but anyone else wouldn't have noticed.

'No,' he replied.

'Well,' I said. 'You just saw the aftermath of the Forbidden Jutsu of the Prophecy.'

Wide eyes everywhere.

'It did that?' Sasuke asked, impressed.

'What about the Otsutsuki clan members?' Kakashi-sensei questioned.

'Shaazit wiped them out,' I replied.

'Who?' everyone asked together.

'I mean,' I said. 'the jutsu wiped them out.'

'Oh.'

I smiled. 'We can celebrate now! The war is over!'

Naruto smiled brightly. 'And, look!' he said. 'I can revive everyone with the power Old Man Six Paths gave me!'

I raised my eyebrows. 'Seriously?'

He didn't seem to notice my scorn at the nickname. He just continued grinning happily. Well, Naruto will be Naruto.

I stood up and glanced around. Everyone looked well, well, at least not critical. There were many injuries, but that could be taken care of. I spied all the Kage talking in a group, and Obito being hustled off by jonin.

'I'll be right back,' I told the others. I jogged up to Obito.

'I can negotiate your release, you know,' I said. 'You can be free and atone for your sins.'

He shook his head. 'My sins are too great to atone for. And that is why... there is no other option.'

He fell to his knees. 'Hey!' one of the jonins said irritably. 'Wait,' I told them. 'What do you mean, there's no other option?'

He shook his head. 'I need to die. That's the only way.'

My eyes widened. 'No!' I said. 'Dying is not a punishment, it's escape!'

'I have nothing to live for!'

'That's not true! You need to atone for your sins! And besides, you have Kakashi-sensei! He was your team-mate, wasn't he?'

'Kakashi doesn't need to be burdened with my presence. I need to leave.'

'No!'

'Rin... I'll finally see her again...'

'OBITO!'

But he was gone.

****

'He died a hero,' I said. 'It doesn't matter what he did, he died a hero.'

Nobody disagreed. The silence was defaning.

Obito's funeral was being held right there on the battlefield. He died as a hero, his crimes buried six feet underground. We all paid our respects, and quietly retreated to the edge of the forest.

I pulled Sasuke away from everyone else.

'What are you going to do now?' I asked. I was worried, even though I didn't show it. 'I'm...' Sasuke paused.

'You can come home,' I suggested, hopefully. He shook his head.

'It's not home anymore.'

'Do you even hear what you're saying?'

'Have you been paying attention, Hana? I'm not wanted anymore.'

I laughed. 'Do you know how much the others would give to have you back?!' I said. 'Did you know how many tears were shed when you were lost? All those people hoping you would come home?'

My maniacal tone died away. 'How about me, Sasuke?' I asked. 'Did you ever think abut me when you left?'

'I didn't think about anything but you!' he growled. 'Then why did you leave?!' I shouted. 'How could you leave me alone, Sasuke?!'

Silence.

'I'm sorry, Hana.'

'Is vengeance more important than family? I know you think you lost your family to Itachi, but that's not true! We-' I pointed to all of the Allied Shinobi Forces. 'are your family.'

I pushed him away. 'So if you're going to leave-'

'I'm not going to leave, Hana.'

The tears fell. He pulled me closer.

'I'm sorry,' he said. 'for everything that I've done. But I promise,' he put his hands in mine. 'that I will do everything in my power to make it right.'

His hands around my waist, my hands around his neck.

'I love you, Hana,' he said. 'And I promise, we'll stay together forever.'

'Sasuke, I-'

I didn't get t complete my sentence, because finally...

He kissed me.

Cheers all around.

A few seconds later, we broke apart.

'And...' he added, kissing my forehead....

'You saved me from the darkness, Hana. You're my saviour.'

Another kiss.

'And...'

He smirked.

'Happy birthday.'
