Ch11: Undergone

I went back to Manila after her call. I knew she was crying and up to something as I drove back, called her phone and she told me she's at the hospital. The moment I landed on the hospital I asked the receptionist to handle my things for a while.

Running to the Emergency room I saw her crying and I felt a pang on my chest. Those tears doesn't deserve to fall from her. I was hesitant first but I rushed to her. "Geen." I said, gasping for air.

She looked at me and held my hand for the first time again. "Shandy, please help her. Please." I was confused who is she referring to. "You're a pediatric surgeon too right? You can do this right?" she managed to say in between sobs.

"Okay first calm down. Tell me what happened?" I said and let her settled in. I helped her to sit while her parents... I guess was on the side.

"She had some difficulty in breathing. Her doctor back then said the she has a heart disease called Cardiomyopathy which weakens the heart. I talked to Matteo and we have someone to donate a heart if it's needed but he said it's risky." she said and sniffed.

It is actually risky even if there is a heart transplant happening. But I couldn't tell her that.

"Shandy, I only have you. Please. Help her out."

I bit my lower lip and looked for a nurse, "Prepare me an OR and get my lab gown on my office. Hurry." She ran and disappeared in split seconds.

"I might go check on her and see if she needs a transplant but if not, ill tell you afterwards. Are you sure you want to do this?"

She nodded, "I know you are capable, Shandy. I trust you."

I heard loud footsteps from behind and I know who is it from those steps, "Why are you mendling with my business, Dr. Samhat?" he asked. I stood up and looked at him.

"Don't you know how risky it is if you undergo her on a surgery in that state?" he asked.

"I know but im willing to risk my license just to save someone than to be coward by not saving a life because he only wants the fame for his title. I serve with passion, not because of the fame." I deadpanned and looked at her again.

"I got this one okay?" I said and planted a soft kiss on her forehead. "Don't worry. She'll be fine."

I walked out from their sight the moment the nurse gave me my lab gown and proceeded to the operation room. I know this isn't my first surgery and it's risky but I couldn't help to stay put while Geenina, the one I love is suffering from helplessness due to that damn coward named Matteo.

I arrived at the room and saw the kid lying calmly, "Hey there darling." I smiled at her and she does too. She has Geen's eyes. Probably her sister? "May I know your name?"

"My name is Autumn Marquez. Are you the doctor? Please be gentle with me okay?" She said. It broke my heart into pieces but I had to fight. "Yes I am. This will be a quick one. Please hold on okay? My name is Shandy." she nodded.

"Please inject her anesthesia. My name is Shandy and ill be doing her surgery. Let's start."
