Mom and Dad just shared some exciting news with my brothers and I. Well, not exciting exciting but it's still good news sha. They told us that they'll be traveling to India for a medical excursion which means that my brothers and I have the house all to ourselves for a week!!!
Well not really to ourselves per say. My dad's younger sister, Aunty Bimbo, who I call Aunty B, would be here with us. She's super fun and nice. I know we're going to have a great time with her around.
We usually have our crazy girl talks and gossip all night long when she's here. She's also very helpful when it comes to picture taking. She takes the best pictures of me which are very Instagram worthy to post.
Unlike Dayo, who just takes the pictures from bad angles while Dapo takes stupid selfies of himself wasting my phone storage.
Yes. I'm surrounded by idiots.
Aunty Bimbo is a socialite and everyone loves to be around her. Her energy is crazy good! Now that she'll be around, I get to gist her about Kamal, my prefectship dream with Noah and where my friendship stands with Ogeh. She always knows what to say.
Let me gist you about my brothers sef. Adedayo Alade, Dayo for short. He is the second child and first boy of our family.
Unlike Dapo and I, Dayo is lightskinned taking after our mom who is half Dominican and half Nigerian.
Yes oo, we are multiracial children as all these oyinbo people would put it.
Dayo is thirteen years old and in Year 9. He loves basketball and oh God, this boy can eat ehn. A proud foodie to the core.
Dayo, unlike most boys his age, is actually well-behaved. But then again, he's my little brother, so the only person's trouble he looks for is mine!
"I should be the first born of this family. You're lucky you came into the world first. All this seniority you're forming for somebody sef ehn, I would have beaten you die," he once said.
Can you believe that child? The only time he is vulnerable is when I agree to cook food for him or help and I when I say help, I mean legit do his Mathematics assignments. He is a really crazy boy buttt he is my favorite sibling.
Now, that brings us to Adedapo Alade, Dapo for short. A nappy haired ten year old boy who is quite tall for his age. He is in Primary 6.
He is the last child so my parents really spoil him. He is a complete brat ehn. Mom and Dad spoil him so much to the extent he has a television set and DSTV decoder in his own room while Dayo and I share the one in the living room upstairs.
Imagine?! I'm the oldest and only girl, don't I deserve special treatment in this house?!
Then again, I've never asked. Sigh, that's my problem. I expect people to read my mind and know what I want when that's not possible.
Back to Dapo, when he does something wrong which Dayo and I know nothing about, he blames it on us. Stupid isn't it? Hell yeah!
What's funny is my parents actually believe him and never allow us beat or scold him. It's just- I don't even know. UGH!
Enough of my brothers, let me let you in on Ogeh's family. I don't think I've spoken about them before. I should have, they're amazing people.
Ogeh is the last and only girl of her family with three older brothers; Kene,Ebuka and Nonso who are friends of mine as well.
Ogeh's dad died when she was thirteen so her mom, Mrs.Nkem has been working hard for her children ever since. She is a really strong and hardworking mother.
Apart from Ogeh's family, Noah and I, no one else knows about this. No one knows about her deceased dad.
"Even if we get into an argument or fight, stop talking or things get bad between us, please never tell anyone or use it against me. I trust you guys," was what she said after telling us.
You might be wondering why she's keeping it a secret and what's the big deal?
Well, in a society like Nigeria, it is a big deal. Children and even most adults make fun of children who are orphans or have lost a parent which is stupid! When people ask about him, she just tells them he's working overseas.
Ogeh was very close to her dad. He was so energetic and full of life that it brought out the spontaneity in Ogeh. After he died, she suddenly became an introvert, keeping to herself most of the time and always lost in thought.
Not to gloat but it if it weren't for Noah and I being her best friends, she probably wouldn't have anyone to talk to at all.
She's that reserved! Our friendship has really helped her as well as each of us in different ways.
Have I told you how we all met? No? Oya, I'll tell you.
Ogeh, Noah and I actually attended the same primary school and were in the same class. The thing was, I really never spoke to Noah because I hated boys at the time. Stupid me believing in cooties.
Ogeh spoke to him a lot actually because their parents attended the same church, along with Noah and Ogeh.
Ogeh and I were always together until she left for secondary school in Primary 5 while I completed Primary 6.
After she left, I had to at least make a new friend to keep me company. So that's how I started talking to Noah. We bonded quickly and became instant friends immediately we realised we both loved Samurai Jack.
Let me tell you a little secret. Noah used to have a crush on me. It was a big one, oh sweet Jesus. It was actually kinda cute but I was crushing on Logan from Big Time Rush.
Do you remember that show on Nickelodeon? It was the BOMB!
Noah's crush on me faded off eventually because according to him, he didn't want anything jeopardizing our friendship.
And, well, that's generous. I love and have big respect for boys who value their friendships.
When Noah and I got to secondary school, we reunited with Ogeh and all three of us became padis. Our friendship blossomed ever since and it's a special one.
We are all so different but vibe in a really good way. We are truthful, loyal, honest, understanding and supportive of one another.
It's funny cause in today's society, it's hard to find real friends. Everyone is either 'cutting people off,' making fake friends, using people for their money, fame or what not.
One has to be really careful with who they call their friends. There's a huge difference between being friends with someone and just being friendly.
I, for one, keeps my circle really small. Ogeh and Noah are the two people I love with all my heart, jokes aside. We've been together during the times Ogeh felt sad about her dad, when Noah found out his parents began having marriage issues and when I found out about ulcer.
These people are everything to me and I hope that years from now, we still remain in one another's lives.
