Ogeh
The darkness was so thick that I couldn't find my way out of it. Hot air filled the empty void surrounding me and I felt as if I was floating aimlessly. I opened my mouth and tried to scream for help but no words could be heard. Did I forget how to speak? Or have I lost my sense of hearing?
I began to throw my hands at the air surrounding me, still nothing could be felt. I was alone and I couldn't find my way out. My tainted soul and I remained in this dark, empty void for a long time. Then, I began to hear voices and I slowly found my way out.
The darkness swirled and twirled into a bright white light. My vision restored and adjusted to the light. I peeked my eyes open, blinking twice before fully alerting myself of where I was.
There was a white ceiling with fluorescent light bulbs engraved into several parts of it. I lowered my vision downwards. It was my body covered in a white blanket all the way to my lower torso. I was dressed in a baby blue gown with white polka dots scattered across it. What the hell was happening? My fingers were connected to several wires which sprang from a beeping machine on my left. I felt one of the rope like wires on the lower part of my abdomen too.
My head began to pound as confusion built up. I could feel the pounding in my ears as I tried to sit upright on the weird bed I lay. Where was I?
"Look, I think she's awake," The young voice of a male made me pause in my movement. "Remember not to say anything about what we heard," Another voice that sounded feminine like said.
I turned to my right and looked up at the two people standing beside me. I recognized them instantly. "Darasimi. Noah," I finally spoke up. My voice sounded so unfamiliar and almost cracked. My throat felt rough and itchy. And as I spoke, I realized there was no wetness or warmth in my mouth, it was completely dry.
"Hi Ogeh, how are you feeling?" Noah asked, smiling at me. Sympathetically, I supposed.
I cleared my throat, "I..I don't know. Where am I? What happened?"
My best friends looked at each other then back at me. "Um, you're in the hospital Ogeh. You hit your head, remember?"
It all came back to me. The incident that happened at home. How Kene and I fought and I ended up hitting my head against the metal of his bed. The ache in my head and chest grew even more. "Oh," I said.
They smiled at me. Darasimi's eyes watered and a tear fell from her eye. She quickly wiped it away and sniffled. "Why are you crying? I'm fine, it's only a head injury." I still couldn't understand why many wires where chained to different parts of my body if I only sustained a head injury but then again, what did I know.
Dara shook her head and laughed softly, " I'm sorry. I've never seen you so.. fragile before."
I smiled weakly. Noah tossed an arm around her shoulder and gently consoled her. He still loved her, I could see it in the way his eyes gleamed in adoration. " We were worried about you. We thought you wouldn't wake up," he said.
I was worried too when I was in the dark void. I thought I wouldn't get out. It almost began to dawn on me that that was my hell until the voices of my two angels mumbling brought me back to life. They saved me.
"I'm fine. Don't worry," I croaked.
Dara quickly jumped and covered her mouth with her hands. "We need to tell my mom she's awake. I can't believe we almost forgot."
