And just as the thin sharp blade of the knife sliced into his skin, the front door opened. "Dad!" I think I heard Doc shout, it was as if my body shut down right after his blood splattered against my clothes. I felt sort of numb. I was grabbed into a pair of arms and the knife was yanked from my fingers.

It was Jess. He was saying something, but my eyes kept training back to the coffee table no matter how hard I tried to focus. I kept seeing Lex's scared face, and the longer I looked at it, the more it transformed into my own. Maybe I was in shock? I mean I have been in worse situations before and this has never happened. Maybe my brain finally had it?

Jess cupped my face, willing me too look at him. He shook my shoulders, trying to get my attention. I managed to make out what he was saying. "Breathe." And that's when I realised that my lungs felt as though they were caving in.

And as soon as I sipped in a breath of air, everything hit me, the sounds, the worried faces, the knife on the floor and the smell of blood. Doc was standing in our door way, frozen, she kept staring at the coffee table too. But for a whole other reason. Lex was stuffing herself back into her clothes as Wes supported her shaky form.

And Jess. My beautiful brown eyed, dark haired boy was standing right in front of me. He had scanned my body, making sure I wasn't hurt before grabbing my face and roughly locking his lips with mine.

"Don't you ever fucking do anything like that again!" He shouted as his tongue fought with mine. "I can't loose you, not now, not ever." His taste sent tingles down the back of my neck to my spine. I took his shouting, his abuse on my mouth, knowing that this boy loved me so much, to the point where he'd hand his life over for mine, and the fact that he couldn't do that today, angered him, heck it scared him.

When I finally pulled away from his lips, my body felt light and free. As though Jess literally sucked the pain out of me. He pulled me to him, my ear rested against his chest. His erotic heart beat matched my own, both of them calming down the longer we stayed wrapped in each others arms.

After a while he pulled back. "I know that this isn't the right place, maybe even the wrong time. But I want this, I need this." I frowned at his words. He reached into his back pocket, first I saw a chain and then what was attached to it made my heart go into overdrive.

It was a simple silver ring, no diamond, just a band. It was gorgeous. He got onto one knee. "Babe Mathew, I know we are young, broken, messed up and maybe a little toxic. But I know I wouldn't be able to live a single day without you. We may not have to get married right now, I will always wait. But I need others to know that you are mine. That you are my muffin." I couldn't help it, tears dropped from my eyes as my legs began to shake.

"Muffin, would you please make me the happiest man alive, and marry me?" As soon as he finished I threw myself at him, I was hugging him so tight, that he probably couldn't breathe, but it didn't seem to affect him.

"Yes! You didn't even have to ask, you could have just slipped it on my finger and said that we are engaged now and I would have been fine with it." He chuckled at me, kissing my hand as he slipped the ring on.

"Funny, that was my plan A, but I thought of romancing it up a bit. Especially because this is a special ring. I bought this ring when I started my treatment. I vowed that only a girl I truly love would get to wear it. And that is you Babe." My heart melted at his words and I was about to grab his face and kiss the hell out of it when I heard the sirens and a bunch of policemen rushed in.

Amidst the chaos I finally felt happy. I felt like nothing could stop me.

We were made to stand outside for statements, as they rolled Jake out on a stretcher. He had passed out from a lot of blood loss. I hadn't realised it, but I had stabbed him multiple times. I guess me spacing out started before the blood reached my clothes.

"Thank you so much." Lexy said with teary eyes as she hugged me close.

"I wasn't going to let him have my friend too." I squeezed her tighter. She gave a weak chuckle.

"Also congratulations, let me see the ring." I showed it to her, finally getting a clear look at it as well. "It's so ... You." She gasped. And I couldn't help but grin to myself.

To anyone else I would have looked like a psycho, standing outside a crime scene, grinning with blood all over my shirt.

"Congrats." Wes said awkwardly as he scratched the back of his neck. "You know I never pictured this when I thought of coming here. Me killing Jess? Yes, but not this." He joked, trying to lighten the mood, even Jess laughed along.

This was my true family, my support group, my everything. And I would do everything in my power to protect them, as they would do for me.
