The next morning, Toshi was on the porch ready to head out again, he saw the Pidgey girl outside.
"Toshi!"
It was Yumi. Toshi was startled and stepped back.
"What are you doing here?" he asked.
"I wanted to see you," Yumi answered.
Toshi blushed.
"Aren't you suppose to be at Auntie Tammy's?" he asked.
"She said I can get some air for an hour," Yumi added, "I would like to talk to you, that's all."
"Did you tell her you only need fresh air as an excuse to see me?" Toshi asked once again.
"Why would I do a thing like that?" Yumi replied, "I can't just sit around all day you know. I have a life!"
"I know you do!" Toshi added, "How's your wing?"
"It's okay..." Yumi answered, "Besides, I can't fly for a while. You're a Minun, right?"
Toshi nodded.
"I see your sister is a Plusle."
"You seem to notice a lot," Toshi added.
"Yup. Hard to believe your mother brought peace back a long time ago."
Toshi's hazel eyes grew wide. He knew his mother took down Fuyuki a long time ago. She did this for the sake of her family. She was younger back then. Toshi heard stories about the fight when he was little, same with Nairi.
"You must know," he said, "My mom is brave in her younger time. Peace is brought back."
"I can tell," Yumi said with a smile, "You have her courage."
Toshi blushed.
"Oh, really. It was nothing..."
"No sweat," Yumi added sweetly, "I'm beginning to like you, Toshi."
'Not sure if I like her back...' Toshi thought nervously.
"I'd better go!"
Nairi was asleep by the time Toshi got back in the house. He knew it's late.
"Nairi's been sleeping all day," Otto said calmly to his son.
"I was outside with Yumi..." Toshi wailed.
"Yumi?"
"She's a Pidgey orphan."
"Orphan? Do you know what it is?"
"No..."
"A child that lost its parents."
"What?"
"Toshi found a friend didn't he?"
It was Am's voice.
"He said he met a Pigey girl called Yumi," Otto said.
"Yumi? Do you know who she is, Toshi?"
"She's a sweet girl," Toshi answered his mother.
"I see," Am added, "Tammy called and asked us if she seen her."
"Last time she was here, she was on the porch," Toshi replied.
Nairi and Vivian were training together with Diana watching them. She went easy on her this time. Flow and Rika were on their way to the mess hall of the base. Vivian was always curious about Flow's condition.
"Why does she never look where she-"
"That's rude of you to say that about Flow," Nairi pointed out, "She's blind."
"Blind?" Vivian echoed, "What does that even mean?"
"It means she can't see a thing," Diana answered for Nairi.
"Don't underestimate her," Nairi added, "She may be blind, but she is quick on her feet."
Vivian went up to the Meouth girl, who is slightly taller than her.
"What now Viv?" Rika asked.
"I've got a question for your sister here," Vivian answered, "Flow, what is it like to be blind?"
Flow growled at her.
"Are you seriously going to start that again?" she asked, "It's always dark and I rely on my touch and smell to help me navigate the world."
"Well, sorry miss sassy pants," Vivian teased, "I was just-"
"Why don't you shut up and leave me alone?!" Flow hissed.
Vivian backed away after being scolded by the Meouth girl.
"Wow, she told you off," Diana put in.
"You shouldn't of brought that up," Nairi added, "Flow knows she can't take your teasing very well."
Vivian was still spooked by Flow's scolding.
"You need to really leave her alone Viv," Nairi said.
"All right," Vivian sighed.
Nairi went inside after Flow and Rika.
"Flow, I'm sorry about my sister being a little rude," Mandy told her.
"Hard to believe you two are related," Flow sighed.
"She needed to be taught a few manners," Nairi added to Mandy, "This cat and bird argument has gone long enough and I can't take it anymore. I'd always had Nita sing to them to fall asleep to make them stop fighting."
Rika nodded in agreement.
"I'm tired of it too," she mewed.
"Well I'll have my mother have a word with her later," Mandy sighed, "Right now, where are Toshi and Lloyd?"
"Getting herbs," Nairi answered, "ever since my brother found this Pidgey girl injured."
"I saw her earlier," Diana pointed out, "She was suppose to be resting, even my brother tried to convince her to stay put."
Toshi was helping Lloyd getting herbs for the upcoming event.
"So, how is she?" Lloyd asked, "The Pidgey girl?"
"She's all right," Toshi answered, "Even she found where I live."
"I'm having Diana and Mom keep a close eye on her," Lloyd mewed, "I have her wing wrapped when you brought her in yesterday."
Toshi spotted some berries that are bright red.
"Don't touch those!" Lloyd yowled, grabbing Toshi's hand, "Those are snake berries, they're poisonous! Eating one of them could kill you."
Toshi was startled and stepped away from the berries, taking his hand back.
"Thanks for the warning," he added, "I'll remember next time..."
He didn't like the idea of being grabbed. He went back in the healing hut to check if Yumi is there, and she still is. He went back home that night and went to his room to think of Yumi. He hope to see her well again. That thought of her kind of made him feel all warm inside, blushing just thinking about her.
