Chapter 16

"Will you two get a room?"

Vivian's voice woke up Rika when she is all the way in her sleeping bag.

"Cougar!" Mandy cried.

Everyone ducked inside their tents for safety. Lloyd tripped and then body slammed onto Rika.

"Ow!" the Liepard girl wailed.

"I didn't know you'd still be in there, sorry," Lloyd mewed.

"Get off of me!" Rika hissed.

Lloyd got off the unzipped her sleeping bag, seeing Rika's cyan eyes glaring at him in anger. Her Liepard tail was swishing fast, a sign she isn't very happy with him.

"What's all that about?" Flow asked.

"Mandy spotted a cougar," Lloyd answered, "We need to stay hidden. It's a good thing we did, since Yumi kept watch. We need to stay hidden for our safety."

The cougar walked passed the tents and the coast was clear for now. Rika peeped out and looked around, then she heard cries for help. Rika darted to the sound of it. It was Huey, fighting off the cougar from before. Rika leaped in and let out a viscous hiss to pounce on the cougar. 

"Let him go!" she spat, clawing onto the cougar's back.

She didn't know Vivian and Lloyd were behind her.

"Rika, get away from that!" Vivian called out.

"No!" Rika cried, "Huey's in trouble! I have to help him."

"Well there's no way you can take on that big cat by yourself!" Lloyd put in, "Let us help you help him!"

Lloyd let out a hiss and lashed out his claws on the cougar. He used ember and Rika got off to help Huey up to his feet. Vivian helped Lloyd fight off the cougar and Lloyd used Ember to frighten the cougar away and it worked. Rika saw that Huey was terribly injured.

"We have to help him," she wailed.

"I'll see if I can stop the bleeding here," Lloyd added, getting out his healing supplies.

"I need to clean him up," Vivian put in, "He has a nasty gash on his left shoulder."

Vivian cleaned the wound before Lloyd could patch him up. Huey held still as Lloyd did his healing skills on his left shoulder. Rika moved in closer to meet his gaze. Huey fainted when he tried to stand up.

"Save your breath," Vivian added, "We're taking you back with us to our tents."

They took Huey back with them and layed him in Lloyd's healing tent he set up earlier. Lloyd put Huey down gently on the floor of the tent before he can continue tending his wound. Rika waited outside looking all worried. She was glad she didn't get hurt during the fight. It's Huey she's worried about now.

"What happened?" Nairi asked.

"A cougar appeared," Vivian explained, "and Rika saw this Sperrow boy being attacked. She want to help him, there was no way she could take on a cougar by herself. Lloyd and I helped her and that was when the cougar retreated."

"Rika, why?" Nairi sneered at her.

"He's my friend, he was in trouble," Rika wailed.

"Lloyd's in there with him right now," Vivian pointed out to Rika, "He's doing what he can to help him."

Rika looked worried about her friend. Vivian went in the tent with some ointment in her hand. Nairi hugged her little cousin to help her relax. Toshi looked in the tent and saw Lloyd tending Huey's wound.

"Who's he?" he asked, "The one Lloyd is tending to?"

"His name is Huey," Rika explained, "I met him not that long ago at the last campsite."

"A cougar attacked him," Nairi put in, "Lloyd and Vivian helped Rika rescue him. He's in the tent right now and Lloyd is doing his best to help the poor boy..."

"That might explain why there was a cougar in there in the first place," Toshi added, "He was aiming for a young rouge mew mew."

"Lloyd and Vivian chased it off," Rika sighed.

Lloyd had Huey's wound all patched up and the Sperrow boy looked around.

"Take it easy there," Lloyd purred, "You're safe here with us. You're Rika's little friend right? My name is Lloyd, a healer in training."

Huey looked at the Litten boy. He was certain he could trust him. He looked outside and wanted to get out, but his shoulder was in a lot of pain. He clang onto it.

"Easy," Lloyd added, "You can't leave this tent until your shoulder is healed. That cougar got you pretty good. Just rest for a while."

Huey had to listen to Lloyd's words and finds an extra sleeping bag laying around. He had a feeling he won't be leaving the tent anyway in this condition. Rika came in to check on him.

"Rika, you rescued me.." he said, "Thanks.. I am quite thankful."

"You should be scamp," Lloyd purred, "You're staying here until you're fit to travel again."

Huey knew he's right. Rika went outside the tent to go fishing with Nairi and Sparky. Huey watched her and hope he would travel again. About three hours later Rika came back with a fish for him. Huey looked at it.

"That's for me?" he asked.

Rika nodded.

"Thanks," Huey grinned and started eating the cooked fish.

"Who's this Rika?" Sylvia asked, "Is that boy your new little friend?"

"This is Huey," Rika mewed, "Vivian, Lloyd and I rescued him from a cougar."

"A cougar you say?" Sylvia added, "It's best he stays here."

Huey looked outside again after he finished his meal. Lloyd took the plate to depose the fish bones.

"Well, you sure have a healthy apatite," he mewed, "Okay, think it's time I did some more work on that shoulder of yours."

Huey held still as Lloyd got rid of the old bandage, his wound stun a little by the air. He was treated with some Grapefruit Seed Extract he packed. Huey felt relieved when the stinging was over and Lloyd got a new bandage on his shoulder.

That night, Yumi got some stuff from the base that is about five miles away for more s'more making. Rika stayed by Huey's side caring for him and getting fish or rabbit for him. Huey does enjoy her company. They bonded well while sharing a piece of rabbit meat Sparky caught for him.

"You know, I may grow use to this," Huey said, "This rabbit is great. Man, I can't get enough to this.."

"I have this piece or rabbit meat here," Rika added, "I'm pretty full right now."

Huey got the piece and started eating it. He is growing to like her, well as a friend for now until they're older at least. Nairi was proud that her little cousin has a friend to play with. Sylvia gave Huey some water whenever he's thirsty. Lloyd had to agree that Rika can spend the night in the healing tent to keep Huey company as he sleeps. Vivian didn't mind that and Flow didn't ether. They're both okay with it. Lloyd left the tent to join in the group.

"You like to stay with us?" Rika asked, "It's not like you don't have anywhere else to go.."

"Yeah, I can get use to being around others," Huey answered.

Rika purred to him.

"I'll stay with you for tonight," she said, "If you need anything, you can tell me or Lloyd."

Huey nodded and then he fell asleep in the sleeping bag. Rika went in hers and scooted close to Huey's. Her purring soothed both of them and soon, they are both asleep for the night.
