Chapter 15

"You've should of seen the look on Kenji's face when Lloyd scratched him," Toshi added, "He asked for it."

"I would of imagined it," Flow mewed.

"He's not kidding," Sparky put in, "He did scratch him, right between his eyes."

"Yes, we get it," Vivian sighed.

Rika listened to them and that was when Sylvia came to check on her.

"Is something wrong dear?" the Sylveon mew mew asked.

"No, nothing," Rika answered.

"You hardly touched that blueberry s'more Toshi made," Sylvia added, "Surely there's something wrong..."

Rika sighed.

"Homesickness again?" Sylvia asked.

Rika nodded.

"You know, I went through the same thing," Sylvia began, "Your Auntie Am helped me get well when I was little. We became friends when she and your Auntie Erica got me back in shape."

Rika didn't find that helpful at all.

"How about this?" Sylvia sighed, "My older sister Ada use to sing this to me when I was very young..."

She took a breath and started to sing. Rika find her voice rather soothing to listen to. She relaxed in a few moments. Sylvia finished her song and found that Rika is fully calm and now eating again. She left the tent and Lloyd looked amazed.

"That song of yours did the trick.." he mewed.

The next morning was time to pack up the tents leave the campsite. Rika felt much more confident now. She didn't need as much comfort like before. She looked up and see Vivian, Mandy and Yumi flying above here, stretching out their wings. She saw Flow with Lloyd with their tails intertwined with one another. Something tells her she was feeling a little lonely. Nita walked up to her and started walking beside her.

"It's natural for a teenager," Elora said, "you'll understand love someday Rika."

Rika knew Elora was right. Flow and Lloyd were spending so much time together. She saw the next campsite up ahead. Diana didn't have to carry that big tent anymore since Sylvia carried it instead. They settled down once more with the tents up. It was a hot afternoon. Rika couldn't bear the heat. Her mask was full of sweat. She took it off and splashed it with water from the river to cool her off.

"Gah, I hate getting hot!" Toshi complained.

"At least Diana has air conditioners in her tent," Nairi added, chilling out.

"Move over," Mandy replied, "I can't stand another second in this heat wave!"

"Now dears," Sylvia said calmly, "Just because this tent is bigger, doesn't mean it can hold all of you. It'll be too crowded. Why don't some of you go swimming in that lake?"

"I pick being cool in the tent," Lloyd mewed.

"Me too," Flow added, "I don't like getting any dirty water on me."

"You five can stay there," Vivian grinned, "We're going swimming."

Rika followed Vivian and the rest of the group.

"What a shame my sister didn't want to come.." Toshi added, "I've always wanted to dive in a lake."

"We didn't forget we packed our bathing suits," Vivian replied.

Rika thought about turning back, but Elora encouraged her to have some fun. Rika didn't want to get wet, but getting a nice tan. Nita did remember to pack sunscreen. The rest of them had their bathing suits on and started splashing in the lake. Rika is tanning her skin in the warm sun on her beach towel.

"Come on Rika, what are you waiting for?" Toshi asked.

"I rather stay out of the water," Rika mewed, "My skin has been light, getting a tan right now."

"Don't be silly," Toshi replied, "You're born with light skin, like me. Come on, in the water!"

"Oh, StarMews please no!" Rika cried.

Toshi grabbed her and pulled her in the water. Rika squirmed out of her cousin's grip and climbed up and out of the water, panting. She shivered, but knows she's cooling off.

"Alright, you asked for it!" she said playfully.

She leaped at Toshi, splashing in the water, getting cooled off from the heat. She likes to swim. Vivian joined in their game for a bit. After a while, it was evening and was time to leave the lake. Everyone dried off in the separate changing tents. Rika felt so much cooler now that the heat wave is gone. Everyone else was outside.

"What happened?" Sparky asked.

"One of the air conditioners died out," Nairi answered.

Everyone was in the tents that night. Toshi was fresh out of s'mores to make, so Sparky did some hunting with Rika's help to catch fish. Everyone liked eating the fish, and Rika carried her fish inside the tent.

"Ugh, not again.." Lloyd mewed when he watched Rika enter her tent.

Rika was eating her fish in peace inside her tent. Vivian went inside and joined her with another fish. The two ate peacefully.

"You didn't mind sharing this peace and quiet?" Vivian asked.

"No, not at all," Rika answered.

"You caught Toshi off guard when you leaped at him, knocking him in the water," Vivian giggled, "That look in his face was priceless."

"He had it coming when he dragged me into the water," Rika purred.

"Yeah, and well, things worked out," Vivian replied, "Oh, this fish is big and I ate half of it. Mind sharing?"

"I don't mind if I do," Rika answered.

They shared the big fish until it was gone. They felt tired after that hardy meal. Vivian looked outside and the others finished eating too. She and Rika went in their sleeping bags. Flow went inside and Lloyd has to stand guard for the first night outside the tent. Flow looked at Vivian.

"I guess you did help my sister a lot here," she mewed, "You're good with little kids Viv."

"I know," Vivian answered, "I take after my mother. I thought it would help Rika have confidence."

Flow nodded.

"Lloyd's keeping watch," she purred, "since we know now Kenji is around. Toshi is keeping watch too. So we should sleep soundly tonight."

"Yeah," Vivian replied, "I think this trip will be over very soon... Sparky will teach us how to hunt tomorrow."

"Looking forward to that," Flow purred once more, "Thanks for looking after Rika for me."

"It's no problem at all," Vivian grinned, "Let's get some sleep."

So they fell asleep for the rest of the night, hoping for a chance to hunt tomorrow.
