ROTIMI'S POV

"Answer the phone." I say.

"He probably doesn't want anything. It's probably nothing important..." Zara begins.

"Answer. The. Phone." I say more sternly.

Zara swipes her phone and puts it on speaker.

"Hello..."

There is no answer.

"Helllooo?!" Zara says.

Zara and I look at each other confused.

"Maybe he butt dialed me." She shrugs.

"You're probably right... wait a minute... do you hear that?"

"Hear what?"

"Someone's talking. Sounds like Jackson in the background." I say.

"Well if he ain't talking to me then who is he talking to?"

I get up and leave the room. When I come back, I have a speaker and some cords in my hand.

"What's that?" Zara asks.

"Kind of like an amplifier... somebody calls you by mistake and you want to hear what they're talking about, or if you're watching a video with bad sound, use one of these... it's like a Beats Pill on steroids."

"Ro, where in the hell did you get that? Looks like some spy kids shit." Zara laughs.

"Ha ha, very funny. I got it from your dad actually."

I hook everything up to Zara's phone and instantly the conversation Jackson was having in the background became louder. Whoever Jackson is talking to... the voice sounds familiar.

"I know that voice." I say.

"Who do you think it is?" Zara asks me.

I take a few moments to listen harder and then it clicks! I match the familiar voice to a face. I stand up and pace around in shock.

"Baby, what's wrong?"

"I know... I know who Jackson's talking to right now. It's Harrison... Ariel's dad!" I say loudly.

"What the hell... why would Jackson and her dad be talking? How do they even know each other... isn't her dad one of the biggest dealers in the city? What the fuck could they have in common?" Zara says.

"I don't know but it must be something if they're together right now..."

Zara and I lean closer to the speaker to listen some more.

"So how are things going?" Harrison asks Jackson.

"Pretty good.. I'm still working my way in.. getting to know people..."

"I need you to work faster. I'm trying to get information out of that muthafucka Mac but he ain't doing too much talking.... if he doesn't tell me something of some value soon, I will no longer have any use for him...." Harrison says.

I can hear him smirking.

"What do you want me to do next?" Jackson asks.

"Continue doing what you're doing. Get as close to Rotimi. And continue getting close to that girl. She may be the key... after all, her daddy is the one who has what I want." Harrison sounds agitated.

"Alright. Got you."

"But do you? I've had you trailing that Zara girl for the last 2 years and you still haven't gotten me any information worth having. You know, if you weren't my nephew, I would've killed yo ass a long time ago." Harrison says.

"Unc, I got you. I swear. I won't let you down this time.

"Yeah... you better not. Anyways... I got to go. Tell your mama I said hi."

Zara and I look at each other. Our eyes are wide as ever and both of our mouths are dropped to the floor. Zara quickly hangs up the phone.

"What the entire fuck?!? Jackson is related to Harrison ... and Ariel... he's been following me for years?! What the..."

"That muthafucka used Jason to get to me in order to help muthafuckin Harrison?!? Fuck!! I don't even know what to think right now." I yell out.

Zara is pacing around but then walks over to me and places her hand on my chest.

"Baby, we both need to calm down. I know what we need to do."

"What?" I ask.

"You heard Harrison. Apparently my dad has something or knows something about what Harrison wants. So.... we need to go talk to my parents. Now!"

Zara and I grab our things and rush out of my house and hop in my car. I speed out of the driveway and head straight to her parents house.
