ZARA'S POV
What in the hell is Jackson doing here?! He can't be Rotimi's new assistant. He just can't be. Like... how?! I suppose I should say something because this awkward silence has gone on long enough.
"You two know each other?" Rotimi asks.
If only he knew the truth.
"Uh yeah, Zara and I are..."
"Coworkers. You know how I'm a teacher assistant... well, he's the teacher that I'm assisting." I interrupt Jackson.
Rotimi pauses and looks at Jackson a little harder. Part of me starts to panic. What if he's putting two and two together and realizes that Jackson is the one who kissed me?
"I remember you..." Rotimi says.
Ah hell. Here we go. I can feel sweat drip down the side of my face.
"...you're the guy Jason introduced me to about a month ago at the club."
I sigh with relief.
"Yeah, I am." Jackson replies.
"I'm sorry about that man. I had a lot going on a month ago so I completely forgot we already met. Why didn't you say anything?" Rotimi chuckles.
"Didn't want to make things awkward. Plus, I knew that if you did forget, it's because you're a busy man." Jackson shrugs.
"Well, again, I'm sorry about that."
"It's cool." Jackson says.
Jackson waves goodbye before walking out to his car.
"He's seems like a cool guy." Rotimi says to me.
"Yeah, he's real cool." I try not to sound nervous.
We both walk into the kitchen.
"So, I haven't heard much about Rosa's mom. What's going on with her?" Rotimi asks.
I'm so relieved he's changing the subject. I know I'm going to have to tell him that Jackson is the one that kissed me but I don't think now is the right time. Hell, I don't think any time would be the right time.
"I'm not sure. She's out of my house which is great but the last time I talked to Rosa, her mom moved in with a friend." I used air quotes.
"You don't think it's a real friend?" Rotimi chuckles.
"The only friends she has shot heroin up their arms just because it's Tuesday. I'm really hoping it's not one of her druggie friends but more than likely, it is." I shake my head.
"Well if that is true then it's nothing for you to worry about unless she decides to bring that mess back to your house. Her mom is a grown woman. You have enough to deal with, you don't need to add her problems too." Rotimi says.
He kisses my forehead.
"It's nice outside. Let's get in the pool." I say.
"Good idea." Rotimi smiles.
I don't feel like putting on a swimsuit so I just jump in the pool in my bra and panties.
After swimming around for a while, I lift myself up to sit on the edge of the pool. Rotimi is still swimming but he stops and comes over to me. He's looking so amazing right now. I just want to jump right into his arms.
Before I can say anything else, we hear the doorbell coming from the outside speakers.
"I wonder who that could be." He says.
We both hop out of the pool and he hands me a towel. We walk back into the house and as Rotimi heads to the door, I follow behind him.
"You're getting water all over the floor!" I giggle.
"Oh, shoot." He laughs.
I walk over to hand him a towel as he turns the knob of the front door. When the door swings open, both of our mouths drop. It's Ariel. She's staring at us as she rubs her pregnant belly.
