John sat in his bed staring at the ceiling. In a week he was getting married. To a person he didn't even like! Alexander Hamilton was one of the loud kids in school. He hung out with Lafayette and Hercules Mulligan. They were known as 'the popular kids'. He didn't necessarily hate Alexander but he didn't like his attitude either. Alexander was cocky, flirtatious, and loud. And he could be disrespectful at times. But John was friends with Lafayette and Hercules. So he kind of had to deal with Alex at times. John preferred to hang out with the Schuyler sisters. He was best friends with Peggy. She seemed to understand him better than her other two sisters Angelica and Eliza. But Eliza was dating Alexander. So he had to deal with him when he hung out with his closest friends too. But despite being in the same friend group Alexander and John weren't exactly close. It was awkward being around each other. Other people knew about their arranged marriage. The whole school shipped them too. Even though John made it very clear that he was doing this to end the rivalry between the two families. Alexander however would constantly joke about it. If he saw John in the hallway while they were heading to their next class Alex would take the time to shout out "Well if it isn't my future husband!" Which made John turn the deepest shade of red. John sighed and got ready for the day. It was Friday but his mom and dad wanted him to stay home so they could talk about last minute details for the wedding. "Alexander will be over in about ten minutes John. So after we discuss wedding plans I want you to spend some time with him before the wedding." John's mom said. John nodded. When it came to talking about the wedding he was eerily quiet. He didn't want this at all. But he would go through with it if it meant peace. As John was lost in thought someone had knocked on the door. "Can you get that for me John?" His mother asked. "Yeah. I'll get it." John said. He opened the door to see Alexander with a bouquet of flowers. He gave his signature smirk and handed the flowers to John. "Hi honey." Alexander joked. John rolled his eyes. Alexander would constantly call him pet names. But if John was being honest it didn't bother him in the slightest. And besides, it's not like Alexander is ugly. He was actually very attractive. But John didn't want to marry him. "Nice to see you Alexander." John said leading him to the kitchen where his mom was. "Hi Alex!" Eleanor beamed. "Hey Mother in law!" Alexander said hugging her. She laughed and hugged him back. Alexander started calling John's parents stuff like that last year. He claimed it was so he could "Get used to it". "We're just going to make sure everything is in place for the wedding. And later you and John can go pick up the rings." She said. "Sounds good to me." Alex said with a smile. He took John's hand and walked outside with him. John didn't pull his hand away "Okay so I know you don't like me but I did get you an actual engagement ring. I never technically proposed and I thought I should give you this before we actually get married." Alex said. John's eyes widened to the size of saucers. "But why? You didn't have to." John said his voice soft. Alexander shrugged. "Someone like you deserves it." He said pulling the ring out of his pocket. He slid the ring onto John's finger and gave his hand a kiss. John smiled and blushed. Alex was nice but a ring and a kiss wouldn't change his mind. He didn't want to get married to Alex. "Let's go and see about the plans for our wedding." John said letting go of Alexander's hand. John swore he saw a flash if hurt in Alexander's eyes but he was sure he was just imagining things. Alex smiled and nodded following John back into the house. They talked about everything from mints on the dinner plates to what song would play during their first dance (John decided to go with At Last by Etta James). "It was nice to see you again Alexander." Eleanor said. "Good to see you too Mom." Alex said. "Ready to go John?" Alex asked. John smiled and nodded. As much as he hated to admit it Alex was fun to hang out with. And he could be a little romantic at times. But that was rare. "Let's go pick up the rings." John said walking out the door with Alex. *** The two boys were in Jarred waiting for their rings to arrive. They had eaten ice cream and Alex had bought John a shirt he was eyeing even though John told him not too. Alex had been looking at John all day. He would never day it out loud but Alex was head over heels in love with John. He had no problem marrying him. Alex loved everything about John. From his freckles and curly hair. To his slight southern accent and the way he was a little taller than Alex. John was perfect. But Alex knew that John didn't share the same feelings. "What are you thinking about Alexander?" John asked. "Oh nothing. Just wondering why you chose At Last to be our first dance." Alex lied. John smiled. "I really like Etta James. She's always been an inspiration. And the song is pretty." He said. "Mr. Hamilton. Your rings." The lady at the front of the kiosk said. "Thanks a million." Alex said taking the bag. He grabbed John's hand and led him out. They walked out of the mall and Alex drove John home. "Thanks Alex. I had fun today." John said as Alex walked him to his door. "I had fun too. See you at school." Alex said. Before John went inside his house he gave a quick kiss on the cheek. Alex blushed and smiled. "Why'd you do that?" He asked. John shrugged. "Just practice." He said stepping inside. Alex sighed and walked back to his car. If only John knew that Alex wasn't joking around with all of this flirting. He was being serious. He would have to prove that to John. Somehow.
