"Hold on Peggy. We're almost there." I tell her. "Alexander hurry the fuck up!" She screeches. "You know I have to obey the law. You know, so you don't end up delivering Phillip at the police station." Alexander retorts. She screams again. "We're here!" I shout. "Stop screaming!" Alexander tells me. "Sorry." I say half-heartedly. We help Peggy out of the car and into the hospital. "Ma'am my friend is having a baby!" Alexander says to the woman at the front desk She wastes no time and leads us to a room. "We'll get a doctor as soon as possible. Hang tight." She says. "Peggy breathe." Alexander tells her. He grabs her hand. She squeezes it. "What the hell!?" He yells. "Sorry! I'm just over here in labor. You let me know when you're gonna push a melon through a coin slot Alexander." She growls. He shuts up and lets her hold his hand. "Alright everyone but the parents and the nurses need to leave." A man says. Two people leave the room and tell Peggy good luck. She told them to shut up. "Babe call Eliza and Angelica." Alexander shouts over Peggy's screaming. I give a curt nod and leave the room. "Please pick up." I whisper. I don't know why but Angelica actually sucks at answering her phone. "Hey John what's up?" She asks. She sounds like she's drunk but I brush it off. "Peggy's in labor." I blurt. "That sounds nice." She yawns. "Angelica get your ass to the hospital." I sigh. "I'm on my way. I'm in my pajamas so I won't look too nice." She warns. "First of all it's the hospital. Who cares? And second, it's four o'clock. Why are you in you pajamas? And you have work today!" I remind her. "Calm you nips. I can hear Peggy screaming. I don't think Alex can take that." She says hanging up. I sigh and call Eliza next. She tells me she'll be there in ten minutes. "Peggy just think about all the coffee we'll drink together after this." Alexander smiles. "John your husband is no help whatsoever." Peggy laughs. She hissed in pain right after. "Eliza and Angelica should be here in a little bit." I tell her. She doesn't say anything. Alexander is helping her with breathing exercises. He went to all those baby delivering classes because I couldn't. I was at school and he wasn't so he helped Peggy out. "Hey doctor guy. Um, my water broke." Peggy says. Her voice is wavering. I'm not used to hearing Peggy so nervous. The doctor rushes over to her and actually starts to do his job. Took him long enough. "Okay Ms. Schuyler, are you ready?" He asks. She gives a nod. I sit on her right side and hold her other hand. "Push." *** Peggy and Alexander fell asleep. So now it's just me and Phillip. He's seven pounds and is made of pure joy. He still hasn't opened his eyes so I don't know if they look like Peggy's or mine. By the grace of God he ended with my freckles. They told us it was a recessive gene and he most likely wouldn't have them. But he has little constellations on his face and it makes me the happiest man alive. I look up at Alexander. He has a peaceful look on his face. Which has been the opposite of these last nine months. We've been fighting more than usual. To the point where we get physical. "Where were you?" I ask in a jealous tone. It's 3:30 in the morning. "I was out with Herc and Lafayette." He grumbles. Lies. I smell the alcohol and see the hickey on his neck. And I sure as hell didn't give it to him. "What did you guys do?" I question. "Why do you care?" He snaps. "Because you're feeding me bullshit lies. I know you weren't with Mulligan and Laf. Ever since they started dating they've been off doing there own thing. So where the hell were you?" I hiss. "You really wanna know? Fine. I was with Maria. And you know what? We fucked. Do I feel bad? No. I don't. Because she's way better than you." He says in a nonchalant tone. I feel my eyes start to water. "Oh my gosh. Go ahead cry. Don't get mad if it's true." He mutters. "You're such a bastard." I whisper. "Watch your mouth." He warns. "Don't get mad if it's true." I counter. He gives me the look he always does before we fight. His brown eyes turn dark and I see his jaw clench. "A-Alexander. Think about w-what your about to do." I stutter. He grands my wrist and holds on tightly. "What the fuck did you just say to me?" He growls. I wince and try to get my wrist out of his hand. That doesn't help, he just tightens his grip. "You know I don't want you talking to me like that." He says walking me to our room. "Get the fuck off of me!" I scream. He doesn't say anything. He just drags me up the stairs. "Alexander stop!" I yell. "Shut up." He says sternly. "Alex stop your scaring me!" I shout. "John?" I look up and see Peggy. She's sitting up in the hospital bed with a worried look on her face. "You okay?" She asks. "I'm fine. I just...can't believe Phillip is here." I lie. Well it's not a lie. It's half of the truth. "Me neither." She yawns. "Get some sleep Peggy." I tell her. She nods and lays back down. I look around the room. Angelica and Eliza are snoring in one corner while Alexander sits next to Peggy. I look down at my baby and the stars on his face. I see his eyelids flutter open. I gasp at the color of his eyes. They're hazel. Like mine. I smile and kiss his nose. It's weird but my mom used to do it to me. He just blinks in response. I smile and hold his hand. It'll be me and you Phillip. Against the world. And Alexander.
