Chapter 22

Annie's POV

Wednesday. Halfway through the week. We've been back to school for about two weeks now. I get showered and get dressed into jeans, a sweatshirt, and my white converse. I put my hair into a messy bun. Yes I've officially given up on my look. My parents have been fighting a lot more frequently so I've been really depressed lately. I walk downstairs grab an apple and leave. Hayley started walking to school a lot earlier so I'm alone when I leave the house for school because my mom and dad go to work early in the morning. I don't mind. It gives me time to belt out my sad and depressing love songs.
Once I get to school and see all the decorations hanging. Tomorrow is Valentine's Day so everyone is getting ready. Ugh. I used to love Valentine's Day but then I realized I'm gonna die alone with a bunch of cats. And yes I have a boyfriend I just don't know how long it will last since we are only twelve. I notice Harriet isn't at her seat. I also notice that there are a two new kids in our class. One of them I recognize her long shoulder blade length dirty blonde hair. "Autumn!?" I say and go over to her. She turns around. "Annie!!" She says. We hug and kinda squeal. "Omg I missed you!!" Autumn says. "I missed you too!!" I say. "Hey Annie." Kayla says. "Hey Kayla. This is Autumn. She and I have been best friends since kindergarten." I say just as Mrs. Wissenchaft walks in. "Ok class settle down. We have two new students. Would you two please stand up and say your names and where you are from." Mrs. Wissenchaft says. Autumn and another girl with blonde hair that goes about an inch or two below her shoulders. "I'm Autumn and I'm from Paris, France." Autumn says and sits down. "I'm Lily Rose and I was homeschooled." Lily Rose says shyly and sits down. The bell rings and everyone gets out of their seats and heads to class. Autumn gives me her schedule and it's exactly like mine! "We have every class together!!" I say. I notice Lily Rose talking to the teacher. "Annie. Lily Rose has the same schedule as you. Would you show her around?" Mrs. Wissenchaft asks. "Sure!" I say and Kayla and I lead Autumn and Lily Rose to Mrs. James' classroom.
It's lunch time so Kayla and I lead Autumn and Lily Rose to the cafeteria. Once we get in there I notice another new girl sitting at our table. We sit and all say hi. "Ok I think we need to address our new students. Everyone say your name and new girls where you are from." Iris says. "I'll start I'm Annie" I say. "I'm Iris" Iris says. "I'm Paisley." Paisley says but more squeals. "I'm Kayla." Kayla says. "I'm Serbrina." Serbrina says. "I'm Autumn and I'm from Paris, France." Autumn says. "I'm Lily Rose and I was homeschooled." Lily Rose says shyly. "I'm Ocean. I'm from Paris, France also." The girl with shoulder blade length brown hair.
We all talk for a little while until the entire cafeteria goes silent. I know exactly why. Ever since Hayden and I came back to school as a couple everywhere we go is quiet. It makes me kind of uncomfortable. Like Hayden walked me to homeroom this morning and the halls were dead silent. "Hey Hay." I say as Hayden sits down next to me. "Harriet's not here today?" Austin asks. "Nope. Haven't seen her all day." I tell him and see the disappointment on his face. The boys all sit down next to their girlfriends and Austin just sits there glumly. I laugh and he looks at me fake hurt.
     Lunch is over and so we all head to gym. The guys and girls split while I go introduce Lily Rose, Autumn, and Ocean to Mr. Artem. Once we're done we go to the girls locker room and change into our gym clothes. "Ok today we're going to play cone ball." Mr. Artem says. Some kids groan and others get excited. "What the heck is cone ball?" Autumn says. "You have three cones with a ball on each cone. Three cones on each side. We're split into two halves and it's a type of dodgeball game. The balls on either side cone gets your team back in. The balls in the middle end the game automatically and gets the team on the opposite side of that cone a point. Whoever has the most points wins." I say and Autumn just looks at me with a that's stupid look. "I know." I say and the game starts.
Once the game is over the girls go to the girls locker room and change and the boys go to the boys locker room and change. We change and then head to encore 2. Serbrina goes to band, Jax, Austin, and Iris go to orchestra, Jake, Drake, Cameron, and Kayla go to art, and Paisley, Autumn, Lily Rose, Ocean, Hayden, and I go to the general music room so Hayden can get his guitar then head to the chorus room.
     After chorus Hayden heads to the French room, Harriet heads to the Spanish room, and Paisley and I lead Autumn, Lily Rose, and Ocean to the Italian room. We get there and Autumn, Lily Rose and Ocean talk to the teacher while Paisley and I sit down. They then come and sit down in the empty seats.
    Language is over which means it's time for math. We go to math and Harriet and I start working on our project. While we are working I can't help but feel someone staring at me and I look around and see two people staring at me. I look at Hayden and smile and he smiles back then looks away. I then look at Ocean and see her like giving me a death stare. I wonder why? I smile at her and she just looks away. Huh.
     Once it's time for social studies we all clean up and then head to Mr. Genial's class room. "Ok. You are going to be taking independent notes today. You may listen to music and talk but your notes need to get done. I don't mind if you change seats." Mr. Genial says. Once the class hears that everyone starts moving seats and getting their notebooks and headphones out. I put my headphones in and do my work.
     Class is finally over. I go to my locker and get my stuff. I then pack up. I say goodbye to Hayden and the group and head home.
Once I'm home I get a message from the group chat.

Austin: Harriet!! I missed you!!
Annie💜: 😂😂😂
Hayden: 😂😂😂
Austin: Hey!!! Don't laugh at me!!
Annie💜: Okay. We'll stop.
Harriet🦄: Who's excited for Valentines Day?!
Annie💜: Ugh. Not me😒
Hayden: What's that supposed to mean?!
Annie💜: Nothing! That was my cousin! I let her borrow my phone but forgot to tell her not to text! Sorry! I'm definitely excited for Valentine's Day!!❤️
Hayden: Ok❤️
Harriet🦄: I didn't know you had family over. It doesn't look like there are any other cars at your house.
Annie💜: That's because we picked them up from the airport and she's homeschooled. I gtg. Bye!
Harriet🦄: Bye!
Hayden: Bye!

I feel bad for lying to them but they can't know that I'm depressed because then they'll ask for an explanation and I don't wanna tell them yet. It's too depressing. Plus Hayden might break up with me for it and I really don't want that. I like him a lot!
I go upstairs to my room and start working on homework. I have to do an essay for ela on what we want in a perfect boyfriend. I'm just gonna name a bunch of things about Hayden since right now he's the perfect boyfriend.
I finish and here my parents come in. Hayley texted me a while ago that she's staying at a friends house so it's just my parents walking in. They immediately start fighting as soon as they walk in. I roll my eyes and close my door. I grab my headphones and put them in so I can drown the noise out.
It's been about an hour of me listening to depressing music while reading and the house is dead silent. This can't be good I think to myself. I walk down the stairs and look in the kitchen/dining room/living room area and see my mom in the kitchen cooking and my dad on the couch with a beer watching football. I roll my eyes and head towards the kitchen. "Hey mom. What's for dinner?" I ask expecting her to say something like 'nothing make your own dinner!' which has been my response lately. "We're having chicken and mashed potatoes with corn." She says. Woah what the! "Okay." I say heading back to my room.
After dinner I lock myself in the room for the rest of the night. My parents are being too.. subtle. It's concerning me so I'm staying in here for the rest of the night. Welp. Tomorrow is gonna be interesting.
