By the time the air ship landed on the Rhian air strip the adrenaline rush had faded. Skye had to practically carry Gwen off the ship and Ryan had to do the same for Jamie and Max had to help support Nick who wasn’t as used to fighting. The rest of the team managed to limp off on their own only now realizing the true extent of their exhaustion as the palace came into view.

Gwen had given Skye and everyone else a huge scare when she had gotten up to help ready the ship. She had only been up for five minutes before the color drained from her face.

“Gwen honey?” Skye had asked her nervously noting how her body seemed to sway.

“$hit-” was all Gwen managed to respond with as her vision got fuzzy and she found herself in Skye’s arms lying back down on the bed. She didn’t remember much after that though now her mind snapped back into focus as the cool air hit her face. Skye was carrying her off the air strip and towards the looming palace. The sight brought relief to the team because they knew that with every step they were closer to resting.

Of course Skye wasn’t even through the castle doors before he got tackled by a frantic Cassy and his hovering parents.

“Hey little one,” Gwen said softly as she looked down at the little girl from her spot in Skye’s arms.

“SKYE! MS. HALLOWAY! You’re not hurt are you? Are you okay? Are the bad men gone!?” She asked her brother and Gwen in near hysterics.

“No, we’re fine just tired,” Skye replied quick to reassure his little sister though he wasn’t entirely sure Gwen was okay. He had plans to call Mandy to her room as she slept to make sure. “The bad men are gone.” Was all he managed to get out as he looked directly at his parents and then left for his room. The king and Queen both sighed in relief. Their baby girl was safe and their son had found a mate they were proud of, common blooded or not. With that they quickly put the princess back to bed and went to sleep themselves, it was late and they didn’t know what the morning would bring.

Skye was hesitant as he decided to change directions bringing Gwen to his room. In the past they had been staying in her rooms in the hopes of making her more comfortable but now Skye knew he could deny himself the pleasure of having his mate in his own room no longer. He had never brought her to his room so he knew it would be a surprise to her but he hoped she wouldn’t fight it. With a heavy sigh he tucked Gwen into his bed and called up Mandy to check everyone over as they slept before finally succumbing to sleep himself.

Waking up was a strange experience for Gwen, she knew she was at the palace, and she knew that it was Skye’s arms around her but she didn’t know exactly where she was. Even without opening her eyes she knew the bed was softer and bigger than normal. She tried to stretch out her awareness but found she had no magic to do so which startled her even more until her memory slowly came back to her.

Unable to fight her curiosity any longer Gwen opened her eyes in surprise. The room she was in was big and according to the position of the sun, very high up as if in a tower. It was decorated in black and white and dark rich blues. The bed was huge with four posters and black sheer curtains surrounding it, the curtains matched the ones on the big floor to ceiling length windows. There was a sitting area with a flat screen TV and comfy looking chairs as well as two desks and a bookshelf. She also noticed that instead of the usual three doors, closet; bathroom; hallway, this room had only one. The door was big with a dial like structure by the handle. Startled she looked over to Skye only to realize he was already awake and watching her.

“Morning, Skye,” Gwen said embarrassed at being caught unaware.

“Morning Sweetheart, I’m sure you’re curious as to where you are.” Skye told her, it was a statement not a question. At her slow nod he told her, dreading her reaction, “Your, in my room. I know your job here is done be we are mates and this is my way of asking you to stay with me always.” He got out in a rush, realizing it was probably a bad idea. He should have asked her romantically not like this. His fear was worsened when she didn’t reply simply sat up in bed and hugged her legs together at her chest.

“Skye, you are my mate.” She paused hesitating, she didn’t want to do this but the fears in her mind were too great and Alex had been right about one thing. She was only a commoner besides she had left her responsibilities for too long.  “But right now, in this form, I can't be with you.”

Skye drew back confused.

“In this form? Gwen sweetie talk to me, please I need to be with you.”

“No! Skye, I can’t explain. Not yet, Alexander was right, I am not good enough like this.” Gwen told him as she pushed the blanket back and rooted through Skye’s drawers. She didn’t have enough magic to magic her clothes to her she only had enough to keep her governess glammer up and that was because the glammer was re-enforced by a bracelet around her wrist that she kept in place for emergencies when she used to much magic.

"What! you would listen to Alex? that guy was a trator! please don't leave, just tell me what's wrong?" Skye asked her angry and confused.

“Skye, I can’t be with you, I have something to finish first.” She told him decisively, with that she finished changing into a pair of his boxers and a shirt that was too big for her small frame and left the room. Skye was too shocked to go after her until a full five minutes had passed. When he finally got his wits about him he rushed to the door. The dial on it was magical so it would bring him to his office, the bathroom, the closet, or the hallway to his room. It had been lucky for Gwen that it was programed to the hallway or she would have found herself stuck in one of the other rooms.

Rushing out to try and catch her Skye raced to her rooms only to find them empty. In his heart he knew she had somehow already left the palace but that didn’t stop him from turning to her teams offices to search for her in vain.

“Gwen!” Skye called as he hastily ran down the hall that belonged to her team.

He burst through Max’s control room door startling the sorcerer, Luke and Ryan who had all been chatting inside.

“Max, please tell me you know where Gwen is!” He called desperate.

“What do you mean?” Max asked panicked at the look in Skye’s eyes.

“With you?” Ryan answered slowly confused as to why she wasn’t there.

“Oh no.” Was all that Luke said, all heads immediately turned to him.

“What do you mean oh no?” “Do you know where?” “I can’t find her on the map, she disabled her GPS and she’s offline.” Came all at once from Ryan, Skye, and Max; directed towards a distraught Luke.

“Well not exactly…” Luke answered slowly feeling cornered.

“Spill.” Skye said dangerously, his arms crossed over his chest showing he meant it. Luke gulped, the last thing he wanted to do was keep the most powerful fey in the 9 councils away from his mate. He decided to tell in the end not from fear, but because he knew where Gwen was going, she was going to need all the help she could get.

“Okay, okay, don’t kill me… she’s…”

Gwendolyn had used her years of skill as a spy to escape the palace without magic. She slowly stayed to the shadows as she dropped her glammer and became herself again. Her hair became glossier and longer her eyes turned silver again and her petite frame became even more delicate and swift. She knew that without magic her task would be hard if not impossible but she had to do it. She also knew better than to drag her team with her, she had left them without even giving them a clue about her going. This was her battle, not theirs. She knew if they tried hard enough Luke would probably figure out where she was but she hoped he wouldn’t think of it, or remember.

Slowly she snuck into the empty bar and went up to her apartments. She discarded Skye’s clothes and put on tight black pants and black leather jacket. Strapping up her boots she left her phone on her bed. The only thing she kept with her was her earpiece for emergencies but she kept it switched off. Grabbing a set of keys from her kitchen table she snuck back downstairs and started up her motorcycle. With one glance back at the beautiful Rhian castle in the distance she sped off out of Rhia.
