The trip to the lake went by smoothly, the soothing noise of rippling water and the shade the clouds offered making the time spent there more enjoyable than what you could ask for. The small gathering of clouds eventually took over the sky, covering the blue hues in deep grays, the scent of wet earth hitting your nose. Aware it was going to rain soon, you agreed to choosing the music shop Amethyst had suggested as your next stop, the roof of the store serving as the shelter you needed to shield yourself from the rain.
You held back a snicker at the sight of Garnet and Pearl hurrying Steven to enter the shop, the more panicky one of the two making exclamations about how it wasn’t a good time for him to get sick and that -- even though he was a half-Gem -- he still needed to look after himself. The calmer one of the two breathed out a subtle sigh of relief the minute she reached the store with him close by her side.
The three along with Greg entered the premises while you were held back by someone grabbing you by your wrist. Looking down, you recognized it as Amethyst’s hand and turned to see her mimicking Pearl and Garnet. She shapeshifted into one and then back to the other, the snicker you were suppressing bursting into laughter.
“You’re too much,” you spoke in between small bursts of giggles, clutching your stomach and trying to regain control. “I think I have abs now -- Can you turn into other things?”
Pleased you were following along with her games, she grinned. Her body began to shapeshift again, until she mimicked your figure, the only difference being she kept her purple tone over the (s/t) shade of your skin.
“I can turn into you!” she exclaimed, chuckling. “And I’m pretty sure I can--”
“Ack!”
Her words were cut off by both your exclamation and the sudden downpour of rain. Thick and cold drops fell on your skin, making you shiver and seek for the shelter the music shop nearby gave you. Amethyst followed closely behind, the two of you a giggling mess as you burst through the doors and closed them shut. You slumped your back against the door, looking at her to see she was just as drenched as you were.
It took you a moment to calm down from both your antics and the sprint you gave to get here, though you sprung right back into action when noticing a few drops were falling from the borders of your shirt, touching the floor with small ‘plops’. You shrugged off your backpack and wiped away the rain from the semi-permeable fabric. Once that was out of the way, you took out two jackets from its contents -- one for you and one for Amethyst.
“Where did you get this?” the purple Gem asked, an eyebrow raised as she reached out for the jacket. “I couldn’t find it since the first day we got here.”
“It was in between all the things we set aside on the corner of the bedroom,” you explained, smiling at her when seeing her cuddle up with the jacket. “I figured I’d bring it with me in case you or someone else needed it.”
Amethyst smiled at that, making her way with you to the others as you slipped on your own jacket. The air conditioning made your damp clothes feel icy to the touch, though the warmth of her presence next to you along with the gentle noise of falling rain made you feel at comfort with the calm and quiet of your surroundings, the soft music playing in the background adding to your experience.
You ended up listening to music for well over an hour, the songs the group picked each diverse in their own way. From pop, to funk, to jazz, and waltz, you moved along to the rhythm of the songs alongside them, playfully bumping into Amethyst every once in a while whenever you crossed paths.
Time seemed to linger longer whenever you went through moments like these, and that made you want to take advantage of every second you had left of your vacation with them. The chances of this happening again were unknown to you, this factor serving as your fuel to keep powering through the rest of the day.
