“You look like you’ve had your fun.”

Your cheeks rose in temperature at the comment your college friend, Nasmira, made, looking towards her to see a mischievous look on her face. Her red highlights and dark skin glowed brightly with the sun shining above her, how she managed to look this good for a seven a.m. class a mystery to you.

“I. . . may or may not be close to have a girlfriend?” you spoke, being honest in your words, knowing very well you wouldn’t be able to escape from her attentive eyes. “I mean. . . a-- at least I think so?”

“Oooh, spill it (girl/dude)! Why’re you so unsure about it?”

“I don’t know how to put it, but. . . It’s just that I feel like she’s throwing hints at me, but I don’t know if I’m just getting way ahead of myself.”

“Did you guys stay in the same room together?”

“Yes.”

“Did you spend most of your vacation time with her?”

“Yes.”

“Did you guys got called out as a couple by a complete stranger, only to have her play along with it?”

“That’s. . . very specific, but yeah.”

“Then it’s true!’

Ecstatic, she grabbed you by your shoulders and shook you around, a bright grin showing on her face. She let go and leveled down her excitement as she then took you by the arm instead, pulling you towards one of the empty benches left around campus.

“She’s throwing hints!” she exclaimed, hands balled into fists. “You need to ask her out.”

You rubbed the back of your neck and faced your lap, uncertainty crossing among your thoughts. “I don’t know, Nasmira. . . What if I’m reading things completely wrong?”

“You dare tell me that after all this?” your friend questioned, appearing offended both in her tone and the look she directed at you.

Unable to hold back a smile at her energetic demeanor, you faced her with a grin, slipping an arm behind her side of the bench. “I dare to.”

“I swear I don’t know what to do with you sometimes,” she muttered, placing her hands on her waist in a dominant manner. “But you still have to try and ask her out somehow. You can’t leave me hanging like this, (Y/N)!”

Sighing, you rubbed your forehead, thinking over the situation. You looked at the time displayed on your phone, noticing you still had fifteen minutes until your next class began.

“But how can I do that without her knowing?” you questioned, furrowing your eyebrows and facing her again.

“You throw hints back! Easy as that,” she replied, a confident look showing on her face. “And if it turns out she doesn’t like you that way, stop throwing ‘em little by little until you’re back to your usual. Just don’t try to force yourself on her if she doesn’t want to, ‘cuz I’m sure you wouldn’t like that either.”

“Thank you, Nasmira,” you muttered, taking both her hands in yours. A warm, earnest smile appeared on her lips at your actions, her eyes softening as her dark brown eyes met with your (e/c) ones. You let go afterwards, a thought crossing your mind. “How’re things going on your side anyway? Any guy in mind since I left?”

“You were only away for half a week, (girl/dude),” she spoke, chuckling. “But yes -- There’s a cute one I’ve had my eye on recently, but I’m not sure if he’s bi or not yet.”

You talked with Nasmira for what was left of your lunch break and accompanied her to her class before making your way to yours. A small, content smile lasted on your lips during the rest of the hour, the advice she gave you helping with sorting out part -- if not most of -- your jumbled thoughts. Now, all that was left for you to do was to catch up on accumulated assignments, go back to work, tend to your new pet rats, and practice with the instrument you bought during your weekend vacation.
