Ban pov
Flashback before immortality

'I heard there was a small kingdom that no outsider has been to in hundreds of years right through the forest of yesterday. The people there are so rich they're dressed in all gold.' I hum as I climb into the window of a castle from the same story I was thinking about.

I immediately find a gold vanity with a fancy brush and jewelry box.

I get a bag open, filling it with all the trinkets, when I hear a sniffle, drawing my attention to a woman in an elegant dress, standing at a big window that's inches taller than her.

She looks angelic, the way her hair and dress are being pushed back.

My heart sinks to my stomach, seeing her start to take a step forward off the edge. My thoughts race, trying to figure out my next move, but once my mind is made up, her wrist is already in my hand.

She falls against me when I pull her back inside.

"Th-thank you. I, I lost my balance an-" she hurries to explain, pushing against my chest to gain her balance and look at me.

My chest hurts seeing her face, beautiful, but covered in tears. I want to hug her, to comfort her. But the dirty look she's giving me makes it clear she doesn't view me as a hero.

"Who the hell are you?" She sounds disgusted, but I'm relieved hearing absence of fear.

"I'm your fairy godmother. Now, what the fuck were you trying to do!?" My concern comes out angrier then I wish it did, but she wasn't even paying attention to me. I trace her line of sight, seeing the bag I had dropped.

"Oh, you were stealing from me? What kind of thief saves there victims?" She sounded like she was about to laugh yet her voice had no hint of humor.

"Princess, I heard yelling. Are you ok!?" A man opens the door with enough force when the handle hits the wall it leaves a dent.

"I have the situation under control." She lets out a frustrated sigh.

The man looks back and forth between her and I, clearly noting how much taller I am than her, how vulnerable she looks with her tear stained face.

"I'll take care of it. It's my job to protect you." he grabs me, putting a knife to my throat. Clearly, the logical decision, unless I was some actual psychopath. This action could have just been aggravating.

His stance is unstable, and his hand holding the knife is shaking. I could easily overpower him, but the look the woman has on her face freezes me.

I'm dragged out of the room, through halls and down some stairs into a prison. He throws me into a cell, locking it before leaving, and I had let him. I sigh, laying on the uncomfortable bed.

I turn my back to the wall, tempted to pick the cement ground instead. A displaced spring presses against my ribs, getting more uncomfortable as an annoying clock continues to tick. It's loud, but out of my sight. I can't tell if minutes or hours pass when I hear a door open and a few footsteps before the woman comes into view.

She finds a chair, pulling it toward herself, flinching when it creates a loud creaking squeak. She sighs, sitting down, folding her arms without a word.

Who knows how long she would have stayed quiet, but seeing her repeatedly glare at the clock makes it obvious she's as annoyed with it as I am.

"Why did you save me?" She asks in a harsh tone.

"I don't even get a hello?" I ask, not needed to see her to know it will cause irritation.
"Why were you trying to jump?"

"You in no position to be asking questions." Her fingers tap against the bottom of the stool, in rhythm with the clock.

"That doesn't mean I'm not going to try to get answers." I say with a slight smirk.

"Fine then, if you answered some of my questions, then I might answer some of yours." Her glare is clearly for me even if it's aimed at the floor.

"Fine, ask away princess." I sit up, leaning my back against the wall.

"(Y/n)." She mumbles some pretty word.

"What?"

"My name. Use it." She orders.

"Whatever you say (y/n)~" The way I pronouns it makes her roll her eyes.

"Why did you save me? You were stealing from me. If you just let me die, there wouldn't be any witnesses, and you probably could have even escaped." She explains to the floor.

"I don't know. I wasn't just going to let you die." I shrug.

"Ok then, if I had caught you stealing from me and tryed to stop you, you wouldn't have killed me?" She raises an eyebrow.

"I wouldn't have." I'm a little offended.

"Then what was your plan if you got caught?" she asks.

"Flirt with the cute princess and see if she'll let me out." I smirk.

"And how's that working out?" She almost looks disgusted, but there's a tint of pink on her cheeks.

"Pretty well, I think." I try to sound confident.

Her glare hardens, and the clock is once again the loudest thing in the room until she sighs.

"I need a favor." She admits.

"Oh, really? Tell me exactly what I can do for you. Princess (y/n)." I watch her fidget with her necklace.

"Don't tell anyone that you saved my life." Her words are weak compared to how she was previously speaking to me.

"Do you plan to attempt again?" My question receives a moment of silence.

"Please?" She frowns, sounding more desperate. The tears in her eyes make me feel empathic.

"Listen, just make sure my stay here will be as comfortable as possible. Bring me food, water, blankets, pillows, whatever I request, and I'll keep your secret. But if even one day goes by and I don't see you, I'm spilling the beans. Got it?" I try to sound aggressive with my demands.

"O-ok," she nods.

(Y/n) pov, present day

Ban and I were still drinking when we reached our twenty-first pint. I get close to losing my balance, barely managing to stay up.

"boo you were supposed to fall!" Diane complains.

"What the hell?!" I pout, feeling hurt.
"I thought you were my friend."

"That's why I wanted you to fall because then we could hang out all the time!" She  sounds excited.

"It's still rude that you won't cheer for y-your Best friend." I'm too drunk to understand her logic.

"Actually, I have a new best friend." She claims.

"What!?" My chest aches.

"You remember you loved Elizabeth." Diane explains cheerfully.

"W-wait, it's Eli?" I smile, remembering my favorite little girl that I had once helped guard.
"Wait no. She said I was her best friend." I pout again.

"When she was six." Ban chuckles.

"f-fine, you can be best friends with her. I'll be best friends with... Ban!" I smirk, as if I'm giving her a taste of her own medical.

"Nope, I'm taken." Ban states, then meli raised his hand, showing Ban was referring to him

"ok then I get king!" I declare, trying to ignore the pain still in my chest.

"You pick King as your best friend?!" Ban laughs so hard he falls out of his chair.

"Yes, I win. You have to do whatever I say!" I cheered, not noticing everyone's disappointment faces.
