Chapter 12
The curse of the Neptune Odyssey.
The hands that grabbed Abbie up and placed her on the deck belonged to sailors dressed in what looked like old roman style dusty clothes.
They crowded round her bombarding her with questions and kindness.
"How did u escape that inferno?"
"Heres a blanket."
"Are their any more survivors in the water?"
"Bran!" She shouted.
"Bran?" An old sailor asked.
"My dog!" She said catching her breath .
"He's -in --the water!"
He looked over the side. Abbie noticed behind him an early morning full moon beginning to set as the sun rose. "By the gods! That's a dog it's the size of a donkey!"
"Please -help -him?" She pleaded.
Three sailors pulled Bran out and placed the wolfhound beside her.
Abbie wrapped her arms around him.
"The boy I -know -it was -you-" she struggled to talk but was out of breath.
"Easy little fish. Here take a sup of this."
Said the old sailor and placed a jar bottle to her lips. It was water. She drank deep.
"Not so much you will be sick."
"Are there more human survivors in the water?"
Asked a young sailor. "You can't have got this far by yourself!"
Abbie confused just nodded no.
"We dont have time for this-" Ordered the old sailor who Abbie had guessed was their captain.
"-Praise the gods we have saved one soul from that hell."
"Now all of you get back to fixing my ship or this little fish will be wishing we let her drown."
The sailors quickly hurried back to work.
It was then Abbie could see round the ship.
It was wrecked.
Cargo and debris littered its deck .
The sails were torn and sailors were putting out small fires. It was like the ship was hit by cannon fire.
"Welcome on board the Neptune Oddesy or what's left of her. little fish." The captain said. "Stay here and rest. I'm needed elsewhere."
He went to go then stopped with a serious look he turned to face her.
"Word of warning. Stay clear of our prisoner. He has cursed this ship. The gods want to kill him and he is a cannabal."
He turned again and hurried to the back off the ship.
It was then Abbie saw the strangest sight. The captain disappeared into a wall of blackness.
It was night time at the back of the boat.
She was sitting in bright hot sunshine blue skies above but the back only a few steps away was night time and raining.
The ship was split in two one half bright day. The other darkest night.
Abbie stood up with Bran. She was weak but her curiosity was strong.
She shuffled holding onto bran to steady herself up and made her way over to the black wall.
She could make out sailors moving with touches on the dark side of the boat.
Moving in the rain. No not rain. It looked more like snow?
She could hear the rumble of distant thunder. Then it roared loud.
The torches stopped moving.
Waited.
Then went back moving. Distant lighting lit the dark sky every now and then.
"Stay close" Abbie told Bran. "We are going in."
She stepped into the dark wall of night.
