Noah's POV:
I was still walking around trying to find Venus's mom when I took a turn down towards the entrance of the park and saw someone who might resemble her. I made my way in that direction and as I got closer, I realized that it was her, she was sitting on a bench, breathing heavily while talking on the phone.
She was starting to look pale the closer I got to her, and I was starting to get really concerned. Before calling Venus, I wanted to make sure everything was alright with her mom.
She glanced up and saw me walking towards her. She suddenly became flustered as she wrapped up her phone call and tucked her phone back inside her purse.
"Is everything okay Ms. Evansworth?" I took a seat beside her and I could sense that she was nervous and she seemed tense.
"Um, no... No it's not..." She responded with a frown, "Noah, I need to ask you something but I need you to promise me, from the bottom of your heart, that you will not tell the girls."
I felt like I had a lump in my throat. What did she have to ask me? I was terrified to hear what she had to say.
"Uh... Okay... What is it?" I asked, hesitantly.
"The truth is... My illness... It was never cured." She admitted, painfully.
"What?" I asked, in complete shock.
"I um... The cancer had spread rapidly and my doctors told me that I... I only had maybe a month to live?" I could tell how hard this was for her, and hearing it was tearing me up inside, "I asked the angels at the foundation for this trip because I wanted Venus, Ellorie, and I to be able to have one last memory together, a good memory... A magical one."
"They don't know? How?" I asked with worry in my voice.
"When I met with the doctors, I did so privately, upon request, and I told them not to speak with the girls and that I would be the one to break them the news after this trip." She explained to me, still leaving me surprised as ever.
"So.. What does this have to do with me? What do you need to ask me?" I wanted to cut to the chase of what my involvement was going to be in this whole situation.
"I need you to give Venus the support she needs after finding out that I'm going to be dying, that I am dying," she asked, hopeful, "Ellorie, she... she's the strong one, and I have Venus to thank for that. Venus helped raise Ellorie to be strong as a brick house.. But Venus... she was so concerned about me and raising her sister that she never had the support she needed, forcing her to turn to other outlets, dangerous ones..."
"I'll do what I can to support her, Ms. Evansworth. I just hope you know that this is going to be really difficult to keep from her, I want her to trust me, and if she were to ever find out that I knew this whole time, she would hate me." I said, worried.
What am I supposed to do here?
"I'm sorry to put this on you, Venus just doesn't have anyone else," I could see the guilt in her eyes, "I've never seen her this happy since before my diagnosis."
She didn't want to put me in this position, but since I'm all Venus has, she didn't have anyone else to go to.
"I'll be there for her. I promise." I said with all sincerity.
We sat there for a few moments before I decided to call Venus and let her know I found her mom.
Within five minutes, Ellorie and Venus were in sight and met up with their mom and I.
"Mom!" Venus pulled her into a hug, "Why did you wander off? We got worried."
"No need to worry, sweetie. Just wanted a change of scenery! And when we came in I saw some shops I wanted to stop in while you kids were riding." She smiled, playing it cool by not letting her lack of physical well-being show.
