Venus's POV:
I stepped off of the shuttle bus with my mom and sister by my side, ready to go explore the magical world of the Magic Kingdom at Disney's Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. We all had our celebration pins on, my moms saying 'Celebrating beating cancer!' and my sister and I's saying 'Celebrating mom beating cancer!'. This was a HUGE deal for us. My mom, Judith Evansworth, battled cancer for eight years, she was diagnosed the day after my sister's fifth birthday. I was ten years old at the time and I instantly had to become an adult knowing that my mom was in need of the proper treatment and care. My dad stuck around for a while, but when my mom couldn't give him what he wanted anymore, he decided to leave her and us behind. I was twelve and Ellorie was seven the day that my father packed up his things and left. He didn't even bother to talk to us about it or to keep in contact with my sister and I, so I have no idea where he may be. All I know is that my mom was the best mom she could possibly be. She changed her surname back to her maiden name because she didn't want to be tied to him any longer. Between dealing with a chronic illness, divorce settlements, and raising to kids, she had so much on her plate but she still managed to raise Ellorie and I into the people we are today. My mom is my hero, and she always will be. It's hard for me to even remember what life was like before her cancer diagnosis, so her being free of cancer is like a new beginning for us, and it's an exciting one. My mom never used her wish while she was in treatment because she didn't have the energy she needed to even go anywhere, so she talked with the foundation and they agreed to grant her her wish now. That's what brought us here to Disney World, and we couldn't be more excited to spend this time together. My mom isn't much of a rider because she's always been sick so she was never able to enjoy them with us whenever we took trips, but that's exactly why we chose Disney World. There are a lot more shows and shopping to do in a place like this compared to any other random amusement park. Ellorie and I were excited to ride together, and my mom was excited to take pictures and to meet the different Disney characters throughout the parks.
"I wonder if we'll get to meet Mickey Mouse today!" Ellorie said with excitement in her tone.
"We'll be able to meet whatever characters you want, Princess." My mom smiled at Ellorie.
"I can't wait to go on Space Mountain! I hear it's one of the coolest roller coasters here." I added in to their fun.
"Well we're gonna do it all, girls, I promise." My mom said, happily.
For our first day in the parks, I decided to wear my daisy crop top with blue jean shorts and my white converse. These might not be the best shoes to wear here because of their color but I was just too excited to have fun to even worry about what color shoes I was wearing.
As we made it closer to the gates, we had to go through bag check before getting in and we all split into different lines so we could compete with each other to see who could make it through the fastest, that's just who we are. We love games and we are very competitive.
I took my best guess at the line that would move the fastest based on the current trend, and I stepped into line and was greeted by a tall, handsome boy with curly hair waiting in the line beside me, "First time?"
"Uh, yeah." I smiled up at him. Do all people do this at Disney World? I thought most normal people just stand in line silently waiting their turn unless they're with a group then of course they chit chat to make the time go by faster... but this? Him? Weird.
He squinted his eyes so he could read what was written on my pin and then he smiled a huge grin, "That's amazing."
"Yeah, it is." I smiled back.
"I'm Noah," he held his hand out for me to shake, "Noah Centineo."
"Venus," I shook his hand, "Venus Yorkshire." We were silent for a few moments until I broke it, "Do you always make conversations with strangers while you wait in line at amusement parks?"
He laughed quietly, "Only the pretty ones."
"Yo Noah!! Dude!!" Two boys were shouting, two boys who looked oddly similar. They were both dressed in funny costumes as if they worked here or something.
"So glad you came, man!! The parties are gonna be so lit!!" One of them said.
"I wish you did the college program with us, bro!! There's so many hot chicks here!!" Said the other.
I raised my eyebrows, looking back and forth between Noah and his friends.
"Uh, guys, this is Venus." Noah said, trying to make things less awkward.
"Ethan." One said, holding his hand out for me to shake, which I did so hesitantly.
"Grayson." The other smiled, doing the same.
"Well we're already ten minutes late to our shift at Mickey's Emporium so we'll see you later!!" Ethan said before they ran off around the crowd and into the park.
All I could do was let out a small laugh.
"They're uh..." He tried.
"Interesting." I smiled up at him, trying to contain my laughter.
"Yeah, that's one way to put it." He agreed, doing the same.
"So you came all the way here by yourself?" I asked him, seeing that he wasn't standing with anyone and the only other people he's talked to were those twins. Do people come to Disney alone too? I've been here maybe ten minutes and things are already out of wack.
"Um, yeah kinda. Some of my buddies work here because they're doing the college program and they wanted me to come down so I did." He explained quickly.
"Wow, that's pretty brave. You're just going to go on rides by yourself?" I asked, shocked.
"Single riders have shorter wait times." He said with pride.
"Good to know!!" I laughed and nodded, "Smart guy."
"Yeah, but I'll honestly probably get bored being here by myself. I'm obviously staying in the cabins with Ethan and Grayson but when they're working I'll be doing everything by myself I guess." He didn't sound too excited.
We've been talking for what felt so long that I didn't even realize we were next in line for bag check. I noticed that my mom and sister had already gotten through the line so I poured before turning back to Noah.
"Well, if you get lonely... find me." I smiled as I took my back from the Disney security officer and then I caught up with my mom and sister. As we walked away, I turned back to look at Noah one last time and he was looking right back at me smiling that cheesy grin.
This trip was definitely off to a weird, but exciting, start.
