A loud yawn came out of Chris' mouth as he rolled over in his bed and his sleepy blue eyes fluttered open. He squinted as he tried to bring his eyes into focus and look at the time on the clock. The red lights told him it was early in the morning on that Tuesday, around 2 o'clock to be exact.
Chris then heard the knocking at his door and realized that's what caused him to be awake at this early hour in the first place. He laid in bed for a moment, wondering who that possibly could be, eventually deciding to ignore it and figured it might have just been some noise outside. But then when he heard the knocking again, he knew he should answer it.
His bare feet padded down the stairs and peaked out the window, trying to catch a glimpse of the person incase it was better not to open the door, but when he recognized a petite frame, Chris instantly hurried to the door. In the short distance it was to the door, his mind was racing, wondering if something was wrong. When he pulled the door open, he found Allie standing on the other side, still in her pajama pants one of Chris' sweatshirts she had somehow ended up with.
"Chris," She started before he could even greet her. "Can I talk to you?"
"Of course you can," He reached out for her, resting a hand on her back as he guided her inside.
He flicked on the lights in the living room while Allie went to curl up on the couch. Chris noticed the way she was nervously fidgeting with her hands and he grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around her to make her feel comfortable and safe before he sat down on the couch with her and took her trembling hands in his.
"Is everything alright, my love?" His voice was like honey and his words felt like they cradled her tender heart.
"Yeah, yeah, i'm okay, I just..." Allie sighed while she slipped one of her hands away to run through her messy curls before he brought it back to hold in his. "I don't know. I'm still just trying to process seeing my dad last week and I just really wanted to talk to you about it."
Chris just softly smiled at her while he lifted one of her hands to his mouth, kissing it gently before honestly revealing, "I was hoping you would."
The corners of her mouth turned up while she took a moment just to look at him. He looked so adorable sitting there. His hair was soft and messy while his tee shirt and sweatpants were gently wrinkled from being in bed. The moonlight that poured in through the large windows illuminated his handsome angular face so beautifully and Allie had the urge to sketch his gorgeous profile. She thought how even though he was so beautiful in his looks, it couldn't ever compare to the beautiful person that he was.
"You've been so wonderful Chris. I know I haven't shared much of anything with you since this all happened on Friday, and you've just been so patient and kind to me. You haven't pushed me or asked any questions, you've just been there for me when I needed you," Allie mused almost more to herself than to him.
"I knew you'd tell me when you were ready," Was his simple response.
A soft sigh escaped her while she looked around the dimly lit room. Chris watched as the corners of her mouth fell and a regretful expression crossed her face as she turned her head back to look at him, "I'm sorry for coming here so late. I didn't mean to bother you in the middle of the night... I was so selfish, I didn't even think, I just got up and drove here."
"Don't ever apologize for coming to me," His tone was firmer while one of his hands came up to rest on her soft cheek. "I'll always be here for you... I want you to come to me."
Tears prickled at the corners of her eyes while she told him, "I feel so safe with you."
"I feel safe with you," His blue eyes were honest and he leaned in to kiss her forehead. "Now, tell me what's in your heart, my love."
