(22) The Twist

"Barnes Barnes wake up.." Coach Brown said as he got a knocked out Bucky on the football field after a hard tackle at the snap. 

Steve very carefully pulled his helmet off James went running on to the field once he saw that his son wasn't getting up. Winnie said "James please get up you know my heart can't take this." 

The EMTs put him on a stretcher and rushed him to the hospital. After an hour of waiting he slowly started to come to. "Ow.." he said 

James looked up and said "You took a hell of a tackle son. One that caused some bruised ribs and a concussion. And almost gave your mother a heart attack." 

Bucky groaned in pain as he tried sit up and he let out a sigh. James helped his son home then into bed. The next day he was feeling a little better he got up and showered and got dressed. He had to find Ellie and talk to her after the dream he had while he was knocked out. 

He got in his truck and drove to Buffalo Wild Wings he walked in and the hostess said "Hi just one." 

"Actually I'm here to talk to Ellie Cooper. Does she have a minute?' Bucky said 

"Yeah hold on a minute." the hostess said

She went back to the back where Ellie was doing her homework in between tables. "Hey Ellie there is a boy up front that wants to talk to you a very cute one I might add." Julie the hostess said 

Ellie was confused and got up as she felt the baby move around. She walked out and saw Bucky pacing in the front  and she said "Bucky I'm at work I don't have time to help you with your homework." 

He pulled off her glasses and he said "It's you..." 

She swallowed hard then looked down as he gave back her glasses. "You knew it was me the whole time down there." he whispered 

She pulled him out side and they were over by her car and she said "Yes I knew it was you." 

"Why Ellie? Why didn't you stop me or say anything?' he said as he leaned against his truck. 

"Because for the first time in my life Bucky in all of 17 years a boy thought I was beautiful. I just wanted to enjoy the last vacation I had with my sister but then you.. you had no idea who I was and felt nice for once." she said as tears formed.

"The baby is mine isn't it." he said 

"Well I haven't been with anyone else since you so yes." she said 

"Ellie why haven't you told me." he said

"Because I remember the words you said to me in the 6th grade back before you turned into a big headed popular jock that only cares about sex and booze and cheerleaders. See you may have forgotten but I didn't a long time ago I wasn't a 4 eyed nerd to you or someone you bump into and not apologize I was your girlfriend in the 6th grade then one day you came up to me and said that I wasn't a cheerleader so I wasn't pretty enough for you to love so you broke up with me and two days later you were dating Makayla who was a cheerleader. So I already knew if I told you that you couldn't love me cause those words ring in my ear every fucking day James Buchanan I don't expect you to do anything for me if you want to be involved with the baby that's fine but please don't act like you give a shit about me." she said 

He looked down and said "Ellie..please I know I can be an ass." 

"If you want to be involved my next doctor's appointment is next month I find out what the baby is." she said

"Ellie we need to talk about this.." he said 

"You said it all those years ago you could never love me and I have to get back to work. So you decide how you want to co parent if that's what you want." Ellie said as she walked back into the restaurant.
