The World Reclaims Us

We will take a row boat into the bay and dip our legs into icy water until the seasons change and we decay into ocean soil.

We will stand between the trees until their roots claim our feet, leaves cover our hair, and all our hollows fill with birds.

We will climb to the tops of hills and hold our breath until the winds learn our names

We will knit scarves for the bees so that when we catch the falling fireflies they will be warm enough to help

We will pack moss on our skin and wash our hair in grass dew and when flowers grow in our veins they will bloom in blind eyes

We will cut our fingers on thorns and water the roses with our blood so they will never question the meaning of its color

We will dig graves in the snow and build our caskets with our breath and this way only the moon will know that we are dead

We will sew the stars into our bones and skin and our hair becomes a galaxy because we already have planets in place of eyes

We will hide ourselves away and paint black and white portraits of every face we remember until we can't remember at all
