9 Days.I've stayed at my mother's house for 9 days.
After the gala, I went to the first place I could think of; my mom's house.
I told her everything and she listened, without hesitation, judgment, or interruption. She offered the option to stay with her for a while and I happily took it, luckily I still have a few clothes from high school and college here.
Mom sat the red, gray, and black breakup kit, labeled 'Breakup Kit 2.0' as I suggested, on the coffee table, she opened the file box and pulled a box of Kleenex and 7 movies out; The Notebook, Girls Trip, Legally Blonde, Moana, Fifty Shades of Grey; the censored version, Mean Girls, and Black Panther.
"Which ones are we going to watch, pumpkin?" She asked, laying all of the movies on the table.
I took Black Panther, Girls Trip, and Legally Blonde in my hands and nodded. She took the rest and set them aside with a huge grin on her face.
"Let's watch Black Panther first." My mom suggested, taking the case from me and popping the CD in the system.
"I miss doing this with you guys, you're all grown up and gone now." She sighed while snuggling next to me in our favorite blanket.
"I'm sorry, mama, I'll hang out with you more." I promised with a sniffle from all of my previous tears.
"Don't make me out to be one of those lonely old ladies, now." She scoffed in fake offense, causing me to laugh.
I laid my head on her shoulder while she slowly combed her nicely groomed fingers through my short hair.
"I'll always be here for you, pumpkin."
"Thank you, next- I'm so fuckin' grateful for my ex!" Sady screamed at the top of her lungs with the music as Emmy danced behind her.
Mom laughed as she watched them from the kitchen.
"Nice moves, Em." She complimented while drying another dish.
"Enough of that." I laughed while pressing skip, moving on to Hold Up by Beyonce.
"Oh- I know this one too!" Sady squealed, running to the bathroom and coming out with a Febreeze bottle to use as a microphone.
"Hold up, they don't love you like I love you. Slow down, they don't love you like I love you." Sady sang into the Febreeze can as if she was a superstar and our mom was her audience.
"Something don't feel right, cause it ain't right, especially comin' up after midnight." Emmy joined in, using the remote as her microphone.
"What's worse looking jealous or crazy? Jealous and crazy?" I continued from the kitchen, choosing a silver ladle as my mic.
"Or like being walked all over lately, walked all over lately, I'd rather be crazy." My mother sang from the kitchen, surprising all of us.
The three of us took turns singing verses as our mom sang the ad libs until we reached the end of the song together.
"I hop up out the bed and get my swag on. I look in the mirror, say, what's up? What's up, what's up, what's up." We screamed into our objects as mom cheered us on.
We all fell down, laughing our hearts out as our mom continued her ovation. My family's successful attempt to cheer me up carried on throughout the night, filled with terrible singing, laughter, and love.
Sady threw my neatly wrapped burrito at me and plopped onto the couch with hers. Emmy gave both of us our bags of tortilla chips and sat the guacamole in the middle.
