Reid and I sat on the balcony, overlooking the city; feeling the crispy changes in the transitioning breezes of Chicago.  I toyed with his perfectly groomed left hand, twisting his expensive pinky ring up and down.

"Adam used to hit me." I admitted while looking down, avoiding eye contact with him at all costs.

"I used to be really shy, quiet, and nice." I laughed while continuously playing with his ring.

"Then he started taking his anger out on me, I don't know where it came from, but it was enough to change me into this." I sighed while sneaking a glance at him.

He sat in his previous position, just noticeably more tensed and preserved.

"But you knew this already?" I asked while completely looking up at Reid, who was clearly listening while engrossed with the midnight sky.

"I killed the cop- the one who kept filing the reports without ever helping you."

"--You killed  Garrison?" I inquired in shock, remembering all of the times Garrison peeled Adam off of me, or took me to the hospital, following his 'rescues' with periodic speeches about shaking it off and putting time, effort, and forgiveness into sensitive relationships.

"I did, and Adam's next."

"No, Reid.  I don't want you killing anybody else for me." I sighed while shaking my head.

"It's not your call, Firecracker."

"Don't do it, Reid."

"Why are you being so protective of him?" He asked, finally taking his eyes off of the sky and onto me.

"I'm not- I just don't think it's worth it." I replied while lowering my head.

Reid let out a brisk sigh and faced the sky again, never withdrawing his hand from my grasp.

"Adam and I were... engaged."

"You were what?"

"You didn't know?"

"No." He sharply replied.

I smiled to myself for a minuscule second, grateful for the fact that Mikey and Rico didn't tell Reid, as I asked.

Reid pulled me closer and rested his chin on my head, his heart evenly thumping to the beat of its own drum.

"It'll be okay, now, I got you."

Cal courageously trailed behind me as I grabbed the mail from the mailbox, it's obvious he doesn't care if I see him or not.  I walked up to the tall, slender, blonde man and sighed as he tipped his tinted sunglasses down.

"So, are you hired to watch me specifically?" I asked as I flipped through the mail.

"No, Ms.Hampton, I'm hired to protect you specifically."  He responded in a blunt tone.

"Uh-huh, what about Lucas, Evanson, and Belanie, how are you gonna manage that business if you're tailing me 24/7?"

"I'm a personal bodyguard to Reid and any of his associates before anything." He securely replied.

"Are you guys friends or something?"

"We've known each other since we were children, Ms.Hampton."

"Nice to know, and you can call me Claire." I responded as I walked down the long stretch of driveway to the door of the mansion.

Reese jumped onto my bed and peeled my book out of my hands while obnoxiously sighing to himself.

"Reese, you dramatic bitch."
