Astrid's POV

I set my pencil down and take a sigh of relief. I just finished my last final of the year. After I walk out those school doors I'm no longer a Junior, I'm going to be a senior.

That made me shiver, the thought of that being my final year.

I shake it off and grab my paper. I go and give it to the teacher and go back to my seat. I pull my phone out of my pocket and see a message from Tom. It's in a group chat which is odd.

I open it and read:

Yo you sorry fucks! The years over! What do you say we all go to the quarry this Friday and celebrate!

I roll my eyes. We have to go, or he will find some way to fuck up everyone's summer.

I start typing.

Sure sounds like a plan

Everyone else responds saying they will go and then Tom says he's going to bring alcohol.

I don't drink and neither does anyone else in my friend group. But then there is Tom, who drinks the day always.

I see him with a flask half of the time. He's 17 with a drinking problem. He's gotten suspended for it a few times.

I put my phone down and stare off into space. I wonder what-

My thought is stopped by a paper ball.

I look to see who threw it and see Tuffnut just staring back at me.

I grab the ball and un crumble it.

Are we really going to the quarry with Tom

I write

Yes and we have phones for a reason.

I crumble it back up and make sure the teacher isn't looking then throw it back to Tuff.

He unfolds it and starts writing.

He crumbles it once more then throws it back. I roll my eyes and un crumble it.

My phone is dead

I look over my shoulder to Tuff and pull my charger out of my back. I wrap it around the crumbled ball and chuck it back when the teacher isn't looking.

He gives me a thumbs up and plugs his phone in to charge.

I put my head down on the desk and try to fall asleep.

Time skip

My eyes slowly open to the feeling of my phone vibrating. I pull my phone out and see a text from Tuff.

Anyways why are we going to the quarry with Tom?

I start typing

Because he would never let us live it down.

T: why do we care again?

A: because he will literally drag us there if we don't

T: oh yeah. Are you going to drink while we are there?

A: not if I'm anywhere near Tom. I don't trust him sober let alone drunk.

T: you don't get drunk off of one beer

A: I'm not taking the chance

T: I can agree with that

"Miss Hofferson!"

I jump at the sudden booming voice in my ear. I look up to the voice and lock eyes with my teacher.

"Yes?" I ask politely.

She outstretched her hand for me to put my phone.

I frown and put my phone in her hand. She walks back to her desk and throws it in her desk drawer. She looks back to her computer then starts typing.

I look to Tuffnut who slide his phone under the table.

We lock eyes. I glare at him and he just gives a nervous smile.

I roll my eyes and put my head down with an internal groan.

Great. What a fantastic day this is.

After class

I make my way to my teachers desk after the bell rings.

"Hello, is it possible for me to get my phone back?" I ask as nice as I possibly can.

She glares at me and looks me up and down,"no."

What the hell?! I literally won't be in her class after this! She has no reason to keep my phone?

"I just figured that since the hour is over I could get it back?"I say.

"Listen, you young kids need to unplug from your phones for once. You can get it back at the end of the day," she says standing," and that's final." She walks out of the room probably to go to the restroom.

I glare at her as she leaves.

I watch to make sure she is gone. I walk behind her desk and open the drawer with my phone in it. I grab the phone and shut the drawer.

"Hey stranger."

I look up thinking she cane back. I sigh when I notice the familiar mop of hair," Hiccup you scared me."

"Sorry what were you doing?" He asked with an arched brow.

"She took my phone, so I took it back. Since this is the only hour I have her. It's not like I'll be back in here today."

"Oh," he says understanding.

I look at him then the door,"Well I got to go to class before I'm late."

"Alright see ya," he says going to his seat. I make my way to the door to head to my next class.

"Oh wait Astrid!"

I stop and turn around, Hiccup is standing right there." Could I have a ride after school?"

I blink a few times," Yeah, were going to the same place."

"Ok thanks," he says returning to his seat.

"I'm gonna have to start charging that boy for rides to and from school," I say in almost a whisper to myself.

As I walk out the door the teacher walks in.
We make eye contact and I just smile.

She glares at me as I go. I wonder why she hates me so much.

Time skip after school

Hiccup and I climb into the Bronco and we drive in almost complete silence.

"Can I play some music?" He asks.

"Yeah here's the AUX cord," I say handing him a wire for him to plug his phone into.
