Rain

273 8 1

A misty smile,
Teardrops falling down your cheeks
Like rain.
The soothing sky surrounds you
With darkness,
And there is nothing else left,
But the sound of your heartbeat,
And the cold of the grass
On your skin.

The bruises on your limbs
And the twang of another heartstring breaking
Mean nothing to you.

Your hair hides your face,
A curtain to separate you
From the rest of the world.
And only then,
Behind that comforting cloak,
Do you let the hurt show.
The stars in your eyes
Plummet to the ground below,
Splashing on the concrete with a sigh.
This is nothing new.

You breathe deeply,
Exhaling silver into the cold night air
That curls and drifts
Like smoke.
You're drowning in an ocean of feeling,
But the waves will calm
And the storm will settle.
The moon might be hiding, but
You will survive the rain.

You finish crying and lift your head
Eyelashes starred with tears.
You breathe again.

The world seems a little bit lighter now.
