Eyes

The eyes tell the words
That your mouth fails to form.

Hatred, anger, barely concealed
Simmering under an icy glare.
The loss of control imminent,
The crazed look of somebody
Who will stop at nothing to hurt you.

Arrogance and entitlement
Sizing me up like a hunter choosing prey
As charming words spill from your lips.
The eyes of a predator, oozing violence
Are as good of a warning as they come.

Had I listened to the eyes
Instead of the mouth,
Trusted my gut and my instinct to run,
I could've made it out
Unharmed.

For the love of God,
Don't turn your back on those eyes.
