Her Voice

(Little backstory so that doesn't take a huge chunk of the story: When Akko was 5 she got in a terrible car accident that rendered her deaf. Everyone knows, though, but she can still do normal things without her hearing. They still go to witch school but no witch nor doctor could find a safe way to cure her without causing harm so she decided to stay deaf.)

(Akko POV)

"Do you need my notes?" I see Lottes lips move as I nod my head.

"Yes, please." I say, though I can't tell if she heard or not.

I glance over at Diana, who was about to leave for her next class.

"Talk to her!" Lotte nudges my shoulder with stars in her eyes.

"N-No way!" I attempt to whisper.

I hear a voice begin singing within my mind, genuinely confusing me as I had never heard this voice before.

It was soft, and held a slight British accent. I was thankful I learned English before the crash so I could tell that's what she was speaking.

I couldn't make out any words and just heard her voice alone, becoming entranced.

I snap back into reality as Lotte waves a hand in front of my face.

"Are you okay?" she asks with a look of worry.

I just nod, feeling heat rise to my cheeks as I realise I had zoned out staring at Diana, who was talking to the professor.

I kept hearing the voice throughout the next few weeks and it was starting to drive me insane.

I wanted desperately to know who's voice it was but I had no way to know.

I sit on a ledge in the commonplace, sighing as I put my face in my hands.

The voice begins singing again, but this time it sounds like it's coming from behind me.

I whip my head around to see Diana Cavendish walking alone, her lips moving seemingly in sync to the voice I was hearing.

Is this... Diana's voice? I wonder as she walks past me.

"E-Excuse me!" I bolt up from my sitting position, tapping her gently on the shoulder.

"Hello, Akko. Did you need something?" I watch her say as the voice stops abruptly.

"Just now... Were you.. singing?" I ask slowly, knowing I probably sound crazy as everyone knows I can't hear anything.

"I... Yes, I was." she says, her eyes widening.

My eyes widen as well as my theory was proven correct, it had been Diana's voice.

"Oh. Um, y-you have a very nice voice." I say, my voice most likely a whisper as I turn my face in embarrassment.

"Wait, you could hear me?" Diana looks awestruck.

I nod slowly.

"I started hearing your voice in my thoughts a few weeks ago. I had no idea it was yours." I explain as she nods in understanding.

"I-I really love your voice, Diana..." I tell her, biting my lip.

She blushes, a small smile on her face.

"W-Well, thank you," she says with a nod, "That's very sweet of you."

She leaned forward, pressing a kiss against my cheek.

I place a hand softly to the spot her lips were moments ago as my face turns ten shades redder.

She giggles before turning to leave.

(Diana POV)

She can hear me. How can she hear me? I rack my brain for an answer, finding none.

None of my books held an answer either.

"Diana!" I look up from my book, turning in my chair to see Akko running up to my table of the library.

"Yes, Akko?" I ask, setting my book down to give her my full attention.

"I was wondering if maybe, um..." she trails off, her cheeks dusting a light pink, "I could hear you sing again?"

I look down and blush, a small smile worming it's way onto my face.

"Okay." I agree, watching the smile grow on her face.

"Thank you!" she says joyfully.

"So, um, I'll be by your dorm at six?" she suggests.

"Yes! Absolutely!" I say maybe a bit too excitedly.

She giggles before running off to Lotte, who was waiting at the other end of the aisle.

I hear a soft knock on my door as I bolt up from my bed, gazing into my mirror to make sure my appearance was adequate.

Satisfied, I quickly rush to the door, swinging it open quickly to see Akko standing there with a rose in her hand.

She holds it out to me as she walks inside.

"Is this... for me?" I ask, taking the flower from her.

"I thought I should thank you properly for letting me hear you sing again." she says quietly.

"Its really no trouble at all. Thank you for the rose." I say, inhaling the flowers sweet scent.

She looks around nervously before sitting at the foot of my bed with her hands fidgeting in her lap.

I blush, taking a seat next to her so our knees were brushing together.

I took a deep breath and began to sing my favourite song, the one mother sang to me all the time.

I glance at Akko as I sing, her face looking genuinely amazed.

I look away as I finish the song, feeling Akko's eyes on me the entire time.

"You sing so beautifully." she comments after a few moments pass.

I blush harder, feeling that smile work it's way onto my lips once again.

"I love you.." she says as I jerk my head to look at her.

"Your voice! Your voice! I love... your voice." she clarifies, her voice raising with every word.

"Oh, well, thank you." I say, feeling my heart flutter.

"I..." Akko starts, looking at her lap, "wish I could hear your voice all the time."

She looks back up as our eyes lock.

I feel myself inching closer, sensing the bed shift slightly as she does the same.

I close my eyes as our lips touch, feeling electricity course through my veins and fireworks erupt from my stomach.

I place my hand atop hers, not breaking the kiss as she intertwines our fingers.

We pull away slowly, a blush on both of our cheeks.

She quickly jumps away, hiding her face in her hands.

"I-I'm sorry! I don't know why I did that! It's just you're so pretty and you were so close and-!" I cut her off as I grab both her wrists, moving her hands from her face as she looks at me with a fearful expression.

I kiss her again, placing my hands to cup her face while I feel her hands tangle in my hair.

"I'll sing for you anytime you want. Always." I promise her once I pull away.

"Okay." she says, tears welling in her eyes.

She wraps her arms tightly around me, hugging me close.

I hug her as well, rubbing her back as we just sit in each other's embrace.
