Arden managed to convince her mom to let her keep Koda when she came home the next morning. She agreed as long as Arden took care of him, and her mom seemed to believe that it would be good for Arden to have a dog that could keep her company since she was at the hospital working a lot.
So after school, Arden would have to go to the pet store and get things like food, a dog bed, leash, collar, and whatever else was needed.
She made a list of things to get as she sat on one of the tables during free period. Rowan and Hailey both sat there too, on their phones and Rowan was snacking on some chips. Elisia was still at home recovering so Arden didn't expect to see her until tomorrow at least.
"The timer's still going on," Hailey showed them her phone screen, "Why didn't it stop when we found Elisia?"
Arden looked up from her notebook and shrugged, "It must be for something else."
She didn't like the unknown of what that timer meant...but right now, she didn't want to worry about it. They had just got Elisia back and she just wanted to take a few moments to feel like everything was okay while it lasted.
Rowan then looked at them, frowning, "Do you think Ash and Elisia could be in on this together?"
"That doesn't make any sense." Hailey pointed out.
"They could be messing with us." Rowan suggested.
But Arden shook her head, not believing that they could be the ones behind this. No way would they go as far as to cut Elisia up like that just to mess with them.
"I trust her," Arden told them, "And...I know that might not mean much to you guys because you don't trust me but...I don't think she's behind this."
Rowan looked up at her, frowning, "Why do you think we don't trust you?"
"I heard you guys talking in the hallway yesterday." She admitted, "That you had your suspicions about me."
This made Hailey and Rowan look at each other, almost guilty. They didn't realize that Arden had heard them, and she could tell they were replaying everything they said in their heads, but she stopped them.
