it's like I've taken the puzzle in me
and left it scrambled for all to see."

XXVIII. \\ HEARTACHE //
It felt like Rowan, Elisia, and Arden had had been sitting on the floor for an eternity, pressed against the cabinets, waiting for the figures to come in and attack them. But the more time passed and the quieter it seemed to get, the terror Arden had felt slowly started fading away, leaving her on a cliff of anxiety.
Elisia looked over at them, whispering quietly, "Do you think they're gone?"
Rowan slowly peered her head around the corner, looking back at the glass door where the masked figure had been.
After a moment, she pulled back, leaning her head against the cabinet, "He's still there."
"It's been at least ten minutes." Elisia sighed.
Arden frowned a little, slowly moving towards the edge of the cabinet and peering around the corner. Sure enough, the masked figure was still standing in front of the door, but as she watched him for a few moments, she noticed that he hadn't moved an inch.
So, Arden stood up.
"Arden, what are you doing?" Elisia's eyes widened.
Ignoring her, she walked over to the glass, her heart beating fast in my chest. The figure still hadn't moved, and she defiantly smacked her hand against the glass. By this time, Rowan and Elisia had stood up as well, and they too saw that the figure didn't even flinch when Arden hit her hand against the door.
So, Arden opened the sliding glass door and she pushed the figure over, proving her suspicions, "They're dummies."
Elisia rolled her eyes, setting the knife down on the counter, "We're the dummies."
"Zoe wants us to think she has an army." Rowan pointed out.
Elisia sighed, "She might."
"She might not."
Before any of them could say anything more, an alarm started blaring loudly throughout the house, telling them we needed to leave. Quickly, the three of them rushed out the back door, running back to Elisia's car.
While they didn't find Zoe, they still found a few answers and were a little bit closer to figuring this whole thing out.

The next morning, Arden got up pretty early to grab some coffee before school started. After the crazy events of last night, she needed some caffeine in her system if she was going to get through school. She decided to cut through the Ditch to get to The Brew, figuring it would be quicker and she wouldn't have to rush.
