It has been a week since the news about Yinka's death. Things had gotten harder. We were now giving slaps or beating and least once in two days.
"You should eat" temi said, pushing a plate of bread and stew to me. "I should not" I said staring at the blank wall
"I'm sorry but you're being immature now. I know how hard it is to lose someone you love especially your twin who you..."
" no you don't! You're just bluffing" I interjected glaring at her.
She also glared at me. "Says who?? Have you lost the remaining two parts of you to a fire accident. Or have you lost your whole family to a fire accident? No. You only lost one part of you. Your twin! I lost the remaining two! We were triplets. And here you are crying over your already gone sister"
"I am here. Also kidnapped but my situation is worse than yours. I've got no family. No one taking care of me. I'd rather be here. At least they give food twice every day. So what? I have no one to run to when they release us but you have your parents. Yemisi you need to be grateful sometimes."
"When I lost everything. I knew I couldn't just sit and keep brooding over it. You need to get OVER it. Crazy as it may sound. It's what you need. You'd just end up hurting yourself. "
I noded slowly. Trying to process what she has just said. She lost everything. Yet she smiles a lot. She has no home, I have a father and mother to take care of me even when I return. She lives under the bridge, I live in a mansion. With everything to meet my needs.
"I'm sorry" I sniffed. She patted my back awkwardly. "No need to be. I feel for you but you need to woman up okay?"
I gave a weak smile. Woman up "aren't I the one meant to be patting you? I mean you're younger than I am." She chuckled. " Sharrap jare. It all changes sometimes."
I beam and pick up my plate. " Ehen Good geh" she cooed I shook my head and continued eating. When I was done, she took the plates and kept it at the door. We had our bath and I changed into my last clean clothes.
A black and white sweatshirt and black shorts. Bored we began to play old games like TinKo and Cinderella dressed in yellow.
"Out! Out! Quick!" The door burst open and before we could say jack Robinson, we were dragged out of the room. By the gang leader himself. "Your mom's number?" He asked hurriedly. "Am I going home?" I stupidly asked.
He glared at me and flickered my forehead "WILL YOU TALK" I sniffed and began to tell him. Once he punched them in, he called her. She answered and I could hear her weak voice, sounding like she's been crying.
"Is this Mrs. Simon?....we've got your daughter...yes we Do....if you love yourself, and your daughter and your family, don't involve the police....Bring a sum of 15 million naira behind the bridge around Magodo..... We'd leave your daughter there tomorrow....the money by 5pm today of not...."
He ended the call and pushed us further, I looked at Temi, and realized she was in tears. Then it dawned on me, I'd be leaving her behind. I hugged her tightly. "It's going to be okay. I won't leave you here I swear"
