"No! I'd rather ride an elephant."
"No! Hippopotamus is wayyy better"
"No! Guy elephants..."
"They are overrated. Hippopotamus are very underrated but it would create a dramatic entrance. Extra effect because no one would expect it"
"You make no sense. You're just saying nonsense and you know it. How can someone in their right minds climb hippopotamus to go to--"
I groan and rub my fingers against my head. If you didn't know, my friends were arguing on what they could ride to their wedding if they were in Dubai or something.
How the heck do you ride a hippopotamus to a wedding? I opened my mouth to tell them to keep shut but Davida beat me to it. At least someone understands
"Y'all should shut up!" She yelled. The room became dead silence as everyone looked at her.
"Who stuck fish bone in your throat?" Yimika laughed. Davida was about to reply when the door to the restaurant opened and in walked the one and only Mr. Okonkwo and his wife.
"Hello!" They greeted
"Good afternoon sir. Good afternoon ma" we all greeted back.
"So...its time to go! Pack your things. We are using the bus. Because the lake is still a bit far. But if we are fast, we'll get there on time. The supervisors from the schools have packed more food, drinks and snack. Let's pray."
We bowed our head down as Mrs. Okonkwo as I like to call her , began to pray.
"Our heavenly father, we want to thank you for today, for keeping us alive to see this day, thank you because we know that you'd continue to sustain us in your grace. Our heavenly father king of kings, lord of lords. We commit the road trip and the outing into your hands, we pray that you'd take absolute control and at the end of the day your name would be glorified."
"Amen" we all chorused.
We were put it a straight line and sent into various buses. There were four buses so like about sixteen students in one.
And guess what?
Tony was right beside me. I tried my best to ignore him but it wasn't working out. On some occasions, when he got carried away, he'd relax and unknowingly rub his thigh on mine.
"Uh.." I called pointing at my leg. He looked at me in confusion and then realized what I was saying. "Does it bother you?" He deadpanned.
question mark
"I called your attention so you could shift." I said rolling my eyes.
"Feisty" he muttered under his breath pushing his leg against mine even more just to annoy me.
Sometimes I think I'm just his target.
"I swear you like looking for trouble." I grumbled. "Trouble is my second name" he chuckled.
Ode!
" just leave me alone" I said. He took my hand in his and held it tightly.
Permit me to kindly ignore the butterflies
"Ahan!" I screamed gaining the attention of everyone
"Yemisi something is wrong with you abi?" Miss Joanna asked glaring at me, I didn't miss the look she gave Tony. I shuddered. What kind of desperate pig was she sef?
I opened my mouth to reply but a student beat me to it. "Leave her with her lover nau? Are you jealous? Don't worry Your time is coming in the next forty-seven years when you'd be responsible enough" everyone in the bus burst into laughter and I would've joined them if he didn't call Tony my lover of all things.
"We're not lovers" I mumbled facing the window. "Oh baby! I think I wanna marry you!" Tony sang opening his hands wide for me. "Seems to me like you can't do without me" I taunted. Tony's eyes visibly widened before he smirked.
"You speak nothing but the truth "
This is the end. Goodbye earth I'd forever miss you. Just one thing God. Tell my parents to make my burial gown green like the earth.
"Are you okay?" Tony sang another song. I tried to tune him out. Key word. Tried.
"Oya stand up according to your row. And get down." Mrs. Joanna announced. I happily got up not even waiting at all. I needed to be away from Tony. He made me feel every emotion at once. Angry, happy, irritated, embarrassed.
"Yemisi" Yimika called "we're here oh, don't get lost"
"Who said I didn't see you?" I joked. Truth to be told, I didn't. I was gonna do what any normal person would do and scream their names. I made my way to them holding onto my bag. I packed extra clothes. Different from the one I was wearing. My swim suit was under.
I packed a power bank, my phone, canon camera, a Polaroid camera, extra snacks and extra swimsuit.
I spread my blanket on the floor and lay down on it wearing my sunglasses. I rubbed sunscreen and just chilled. Well, until I felt someone lay beside me.
"Personal space?" I joked taking off my glasses to see Tony. "Hmm?" He murmured "I forgot my blanket so I'm sharing with you."
"No! Get up! Go and share with your room mates." I groaned trying to push him off. "it won't work. I've got big muscles" he joked. I turned away from him facing the other side until...
Someone...an idiot....by the name...Anjola....poured water on us! "Better come let's swim. Be doing love love there as if we will not get married too."
Tony laughed while I glared.
I stood up. "Thank God I'm already in my swimsuit and not clothes." I glared. Anjola laughed running to the ocean. I turned to Tony. "Let's go?" I asked. He nodded entwining his hands with mine.
We both got to the water and my guy just carried me over his shoulders, walking to a deeper part. "Tony! Drop me down! Tony no.. Tony! Stop ah! Tony.." My other words were cut off when water filled my mouth.
I was going to tell him I could not swim but it was too late.
The water closed up above my head as I sank. I tried coming up but I was frozen. Tears began to pour from my eyes. Don't tell me it is impossible to cry underwater because I did cry.
"Yemisi?" I heard someone call far away. I couldn't breathe, it was hard to hold my breath. When I felt my lungs about to burst, arms wrapped around my waist pulling me up to the surface.
I was being carried and placed somewhere but I didn't know, I felt really nauseous and suffocated. And before I knew what was happening, I passed out
