"Here we are." Ashton announced as he stepped out of his car to help me out. He opened my door and supported me.
"You're coming too?" I asked. I was under the impression that he would just drop me off and leave. I felt a little cautious with my words, seeing as to how our last conversation didn't end very well.
"I got to make sure nothing gets ya, right?" He explained, adding a little smirk at the end of that sentence. His goofy smile sent a tsunami straight into my stomach.
"Hungry?" He asked. The magic word.
I nodded dumbly as Ashton mumbled something about what we were having for lunch. We, or rather he, decided to have something simple. Chicken. He ordered my food and sat back down on the cushioned seat.
And I couldn't help but melt when Ashton's eyes met mine.
He had beautiful, beautiful hazelly green eyes that glistened under any light. His hair flowed freely without the security of his bandana and he licked his lips nervously, never breaking eye contact. My heart raced against my nagging brain.
"Bay." He said, finally looking away. I diverted my gaze slowly as well. I cocked an eyebrow at him.
"I just wanted to say-"
"Your order, sir." the waiter came to our table and set our lunch on the wooden table.
Ashton nodded as if to say thank you but forgot to continue his sentence as he continued to eat.
"Yeah?" I probed, aching to know what he had on his mind.
"Nothing." He shook his head, as if he was urging me to let it go. Verbally, I did. Mentally, my thoughts were running wild. It wasn't usual, for Ashton to initiate warm, friendly conversations. I wanted to take every opportunity I had.
After lunch, Ashton insisted we get a crib for the baby and put it in his room.
Or Calum's.
"So which store do you want to go to?" he questioned, looking around his surroundings. I pointed at a store with a giant teddy bear squeezed into the display window. We entered the store and were amazed by the sheer variety of cloths available.
"Crib first, clothes later." Ashton mutters as he scans the shop for a crib, pulling me apart from the adorable little onesies.
It warmed my heart to see Ashton be so "attached" to the baby. Like a father should.
"Got it!" Ashton runs over to the crib which had spiderman figures on it. I smiled in satisfaction. Later, Ashton rushed over to my side while giggling his ass off. He had a blue onesie in his hands.
"Look." Ashton hands me the onesie that had the words "My Daddy is a Drummer". I bit my lip looking at the onesie as I felt my heart crumple a little.
"So you're daddy, huh?" I teased.
"Whoa, slow down now. I know I was good in bed but still." Ashton raised his hands up protectively.
Middle aged mothers eyed him strangely before shaking their head in disapproval.
"You kinky bastard." I hit Ashton on the arm and placed the onesie into the pile of other cloths I had gotten for the baby.
Ashton's phone buzzed.
"Um, Bay?" Ashton says, sounding a little worried. I frowned and peeked at his phone.
"Michael and Luke bought something for him too." I stared intently at the picture Mike had sent Ashton.
There was a miniature choker, combat boots and a fake earring.
Ashton and I glanced at each other with a knowing look.
The baby was going nowhere near Michael.
The rest of the shopping trip was filled with laughter and weird jokes. There was no baby talk. There was no band talk. It was just us.
The "us" that we were that night.
Despite being so close to Ashton the whole day, I got to have the break I needed because of him. I just wished that this Ashton would appear more often. I was pretty sad to end the day.
When we got back home, Michael and Luke were still out. Calum sat at the table with his pencil scribbling down some new lyrics for the album.
"Hey, you." Calum beamed when he saw me. I smiled back at him. Ashton sat next to Calum and we could almost feel the tension build up in the room.
"Why don't you go up and rest? I'll take of the bags." Ashton said, calmly. Calum remained silent and stared at us blankly.
"Is everything okay?" I asked.
"Yeah, it's all good. We just need to talk." Ashton reassured me. I was sceptical but went into the room anyways.
I closed my eyes and felt the world around me change into bliss and comfort.
Suddenly, I was awaken on a dark street by a loud clap of thunder. I got up to my feet.
"Bay." I heard from behind me.
I whipped my head around to see Calum and Ashton walk closer to me.
"Bay, please love me." Calum pleads.
"No Bay, I love you." Ashton shouts louder.
"I'm the dad, Bay." Calum starts again, more sternly this time.
"No! I'm the real father." Ashton took a step closer.
Calum pushes Ashton and Ashton pushed Calum back. The constant pushing evolved into a heated fight.
I felt myself suffocate and I could hardly breathe. I fell on the floor before I heard someone call my name.
"Bay!"
"Bay!""Bay!" I felt myself being shaken awake. Beads of sweat fell freely from my forehead as Ashton towered over me with a worried look on his face.
"Bay, are you okay? Do you need me to bring you to the doctor?" He asked. I shook my head no.
"It's nothing. Just a bad dream." I brushed it off with a wave of a hand. I was still half asleep and giddy from the dream. I felt a little drunk.
"About earlier." He started speaking. I rubbed my eyes a tried my very best to listen to the words that were coming out of his mouth.
"I just wanted to say that I thought about it." He continued. "A lot."
I forced myself awake but my tiredness eventually overwhelmed me and I dozed off again.
"I want to try."
