chapter 8

As I stare at the new package I look to see where the return address is. I need to know who sent it so I have an idea of it is. There's no return address. I look at the box closer to see if there's anything on it other than my name and address but there's not. I grab my pocket knife off of my desk and I cut open the box carefully. I open it only to see a large book. I tilt my head as I look at it. I take it out and set it down looking at it. It's completely a black leather bound book with a clasp on it to keep it closed. It has a red outline on it and in the middle is a crescent moon with a red outline. I notice there's a small spot in the moon that as a dip in it. It looks like my gem could fit in it. I set it down and I look into the book pulling out different herbs and jars filled with other things I really don't want to know what's in them. I pull out a few more things then I put it all back and I look at the book leaving only that out. I take a deep breath before I put the ruby pendent in the spot that seems to be the perfect shape. I notice that as the ruby gets closer the book and the ruby start to glow. The closer together the brighter the glow. I quickly out the book down once I see the light and I look at leguon.

"should we wait?"

He chirps and pecks the membership card for the occult club. I look at him.

"I can't tell them! I know it's an occult club but...."

He chirps angrily at me.

"okay okay I'll take it in and ill show them.... I'll bring it all in..."

I look at the box and I put the book in my book bag not trusting to put it in my locker once I get to school. I decided to go to sleep early today since I didn't sleep much yesterday. I change quickly after my shower and I walk over to my bed once I clear it of a bird and his almost completely eaten raw meat. I lay and cover up leaving the window open for him so he's free to leave. I feel him come back onto the bed and right to my face and chirp.

"I'm sleeping now. I'm tired...finish your food and either leave or go to sleep okay?"

It's quiet as he goes back to eating. I thought he left but when I feel him hop back up and nuzzles close to me.

I wake the next the day and dress quickly running throughout the house. I got more sleep but still woke up around 4 am. I went to bed around 9 so it's an improvement. I grab the box before I leave only to be stopped by tsuki.

"what are you doing?"

"going to school."

"with a crow and a box of unknown things?"

She looks me up and down.

"ya. And?"

I reply to her and she shrugs.

"okay fine. I'm going job hunting with aidan so well be gone wh-"

"when you get home I know. Your always gone."

I leave the house and I run to school careful of the things I have in my box. I hear a voice I didn't want to deal with till the club meeting, but I'm happy he's here. His bike has a basket.

"hey! Vlad wait up!"

I wait and allow peter to ride up next to me.

"I wanted to say I'm sorry about yesterday.... it's just...I know what your hiding and I don't want you to be ashamed or anything. Just know I can help in anyway I'm able to."

I look at him and I tilt my head.

"how?"

"it's the only other hayashi in the system at your old school....the others will feel the same way I do. I just don't want you hurting thinking you have no one to talk to"

"I'll be fine I always am peter. If you really wanna help let me put this in your basket"

I put the box in the basket and I look at him.

"hop on vlad. Well to go school faster"

I sigh and shrug going on standing on the pegs his bike has and holding on to him as he peddles to school. For a skinny guy he acts like having another person and a 10-pound box on his bike like its nothing. When I see the school I hear him ask.

"what's in the box?"

"a bunny"

"ha-ha I see what you did there. But really"

"something for the club. I have something to show you all when we meet"

I hop off once he parks his bike and I get the box going to the club room. Peter said it would be better to put it in there and not have to worry about it. I wait for him to unlock the door and I put the box on the table.

"let's go. Class it about to start"

I nod and follow peter out as he closes the door and locks it back and we run to our classes. I get in just as the bell rings and I slip into my seat as the teacher calls my name and I fall onto the floor from sliding to far. Ms. Tanner isn't happy.

"nice to know you're here mr.hayashi but you should try not to throw yourself on the floor next time."

I just give a thumps up and I fix myself and go on with the day as I usually do. Avoiding ace till club starts. It seems impossible when lunch comes around and I find all of the members sitting at my place on the roof.

"can you guys not?"

Peter looks at me.

"what? Want to sit all together as a club?"

Rei smiles softly talking her voice just as soft I almost couldn't hear her.

"I noticed your always up here on the roof. You don't eat. You just draw. I made us all lunch so eat up!"

I groan and I sit down look at all the food. I look at them as they wait for me to eat first. I take the strawberries and I keep them for myself.

"you like strawberries huh?"

Peter says as he looks at me and I nod some.

"we'll have all you want"

I eat them and only them as I look around. I stand and walk to the edge of the roof sitting there enjoying the sunshine and the nice wind. Its nice till the bell rings for us to go back so I get up and head to class with the now group I'm stuck in.
