With Stiles at school the next morning, I stayed at home—like I usually do. There was no homework for me to do and I couldn't go out looking for Lydia. Not with my dad out searching high and low for her.
The last thing I needed was for him or one of his deputies to see me running around on all fours like a crazy person. I didn't need to try explaining that to him.
So, I spent the day doing chores around the house. It felt nice to have a relaxed day—quiet and calm enough for me to actually get some cleaning done since my dad or brother never really do it.
I even cooked myself some pancakes for breakfast and had a moment of peace to just enjoy them.
I met my dad at the station with lunch, which we shared in his office while he was coordinating the search party for the strawberry blonde. I offered to help, the human way, but he told me that he and his deputies had it under control. So, I went home after lunch.
I was cleaning in my room, feeling restless without something to actually do. Normally, by lunch, Stiles had me running some kind of errand which gave me something to do.
But not this time.
So, I was listening to music and cleaning. I had opened my window to let the warm breeze come inside, enjoying the sound of birds outside while I became a little OCD in my room. I was straightening the items on my desk, making sure all of my school work was accounted for.
I walked passed the window to put a book on my bookshelf but I froze when I saw the outline of a figure in dark clothes outside of my window. I didn't move but I shifted my eyes to look out of the window, my heart leaping from my chest.
Pretending like nothing changed, I just walked over to my bookshelf to put the book away, taking a deep breath to slow my racing heart.
When I passed the window again and actually turned my whole head to look outside, the figure I thought was Derek Hale was gone. I let out a sharp exhale of air and lowered myself to my knees in front of the open glass.
My eyes shifted around to look into the trees and I strained my hearing, thinking that maybe I'd hear him somewhere out there, but it was quiet.
And my heart broke a little bit more in my chest.
The sharp ringing of my phone jerked me out of my thoughts, in turn almost giving me a heart attack. After spinning on my heels toward the source of the ringing, I let out another harsh sigh and stood up to find my phone.
"Scott?" I questioned when I answered the call. I looked down at my phone and it was after four in the afternoon, which meant that school was over.
"I might have a lead on Lydia. I need your help."
He skipped all formalities but that was okay. He needed my help and that was all I focused on. So, I grabbed my jacket from the back of my desk chair and jumped out of my window, landing gracefully on my feet. Then, I took off into the woods.
