I sat behind Derek on the staircase, leaning back with my elbows propped on the step behind me, while Peter was inspecting his face in the broken glass that Derek had thrown at him. I happened to give him a nice, swift kick in the face while I was kicking his ass. And even though it was purely accidental, it still made me feel pretty good.
He deserved a good ass kicking.
"See?" he muttered, "Prime example right here. I'm not healing as fast." Peter lowered the glass and looked over at Derek. "Coming back from the dead isn't easy, you know. I'm not as strong as I used to be."
"Then maybe you should've just stayed dead," I muttered to myself, but still loud enough for him to hear me. "And saved us the trouble of killing you again."
"I need a pack," he said, ignoring my comment toward him. Yeah, Peter didn't like me much but I didn't even care. "An Alpha, like you. I need you as much as you need me."
Derek scoffed, "Why would I want help from a total psycho?"
"First of all, I'm not a total psycho." I snorted but kept my retorts to myself. "And by the way, you're the one that slashed my throat wide open. But we're all works in progress, right? So..."
I leaned forward and rested my elbows on my knees, narrowing my eyes toward him.
"We need each other," Peter told Derek. I bit back the growl that was bubbling in my chest, letting Derek be the one to take the situation where he wanted it to go.
I may have serious beef with Peter, but he was Derek's uncle and Derek had been the one to kill him anyway.
"Sometimes when you need help, you turn to people you'd never expect."
Peter crossed over to stand in front of Derek and he rested his hands on both sides of the railing as he leaned down in front of his nephew.
I leaned forward with a snarl in case he tried something but Derek rested his hand back on my knee, like he was telling me that he was fine and could handle his uncle.
"You tried to build your pack," he said to Derek. "You tried to prepare for the worse. You weren't ready. Because of it, Gerard is winning."
I narrowed my eyes again and clenched my fists together when I heard that man's name.
I hated Gerard more than I hated Peter.
"He's taking his time. He's toying with Scott. He's going after your wolves, one by one. He's relishing in his victory."
"How about you tell us something we don't know?" Derek growled.
"Oh, I'm going to," Peter mused. "And it's going to prove why you should trust me. Why you need to trust me. Because I'm going to tell you how to stop Jackson."
