I jerked about in the back seat of the Jeep, holding onto the back of the boys' seats as Stiles whipped the Jeep around a corner quickly.

I groaned as he slammed on the brakes suddenly. "Oh, what the fuck?" I moaned, recovering from whiplash.

"What do we do now?" Stiles asked.

I lifted my head to the sound of the door opening and Scott was already gone.

"Oh, for God's sake!" I hissed. I threw myself out of the seat and raced out of the vehicle after Scott, leaving my brother behind without an answer to his question.

I leapt up and grabbed the top of the gate, flinging my legs over and somersaulting in the air. I landed on my feet next to Scott and the two of us bolted to find the kanima—Jackson.

"We need to split up," I told Scott as we ran. "We can cover more ground."

"Yeah, good idea," he agreed.

"You go that way," I said, pointing off to my left. "I'll go this way."

Scott veered off and I did, too. I could hear the roaring of the kanima and then I heard a werewolf roar that almost caused me to stop running.

It was Derek.

He wasn't in pain. The sound of his roar was more of an angry sound and it shook through me more than I thought. I must've been close to them.

I ran faster, hoping to catch up to Derek before he killed the kanima like he wanted to do.

If Jackson really was the kanima, he probably had no idea what he was doing and it would be awful to kill him if we could figure out how to help him.

It wasn't long before I saw Derek and the kanima. I ran up to him and his eyes widened when he saw me, but the kanima ran up a concrete pillar.

"Sarah?! What are y—"

There was an explosion of electricity from above and we covered our heads. Something dropped to the ground behind me and I spun around, baring my fangs with a growl.

The kanima grabbed my shirt and threw me behind it, sending me tumbling away. I groaned, coughing as dirt and dust flew around me.

Derek snarled next but then he was thrown toward me as well. He picked himself up as we heard squealing of tires. Derek picked me up to my feet and we hid behind the pillar.

He pushed my back up against it and then stood in front of me. My breath was heavy and I was reminded of my first few weeks back home, when I was at his house after the video store attack. When Kate showed up and shot at us.

I cowered my face into his chest at the sound of gunshots right behind us and his arm wrapped around my waist.

It was quiet and Derek took my hand. "Light on your feet," he whispered low, only for me to hear.
