Anira...
"Our love for this land is deeper than the deeps of the sea.
Our regret is undying yet we will cast all away rather than submit.
What should be shall be." I sang quietly
I remember when my mother would brush my hair and sang this to me when I was a child. My father told me that the song was about our kingdom, but I knew the song's meaning was deeper than that. I never understood the true meaning of the song- I still do not understand the meaning of the song. I will know, hopefully.
All of a sudden I heard rustling in the bushes. I reached for an arrow in my quiver, ready to strike. I listened very carefully for any other noise and I heard whispering. I slowly jumped off of Arthion and went over to the bush, with my arrow in my hand and my bow in the other. I pulled my bowstring back ready to strike.
"Who goes there? Show yourself!" I demanded to know who or what was watching me.
Suddenly three children ran from behind the bushes and charged towards me. I felt my feet being lifted from the ground which caused me to fall on my back. The three children were attacking me. Two of them were keeping my feet down so I wouldn't get back on my feet, while the other was holding my neck. These are strong children.
"Strider it's another Black Rider!" One of the children said. I soon realized that these are not children, they're Hobbits. Then a man with dark hair came running over to me and the young hobbits.
"What are you talking about?" I finally spoke up.
"This is no Black Rider." I could recognize that voice from anywhere. I felt the three hobbits get off me and my hood being pulled off of my head. "Menelwen?"
"Why hello there old friend."
"What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same. Strider."
"I'm helping these hobbits get to Rivendell."
"Well I'm going to Rivendell as well."
"What are they sayin'?" One young hobbit said
"I don't know, Pip."
"Young hobbits this is Menelwen."
I bet you are wondering why Aragorn and I hide our names. Well for the same reason he is Isildur's heir and feels a bit ashamed that his father didn't destroy the ring when he did. As for me if I told people my real name they would question me on why I haven't claimed the throne of Deepingdale. It's because my people never failed, they never failed at anything. And I do not want to be known as the queen who failed her people.
"My lady, I apologize, we thought you were a black rider." One of the hobbits said.
"Oh it's quite alright, I suppose I did look like one since I have a black horse and my cloak is black and my cloak did hide my face. It's fine, um, I never caught your name."
"Samwise Gamgee."
"Sam for short?"
"Yes, my lady."
"You may call me Menelwen. And you two?"
The smallest one came up to me. "Peregrin Took, or Pippin." I noticed he had a bit more hair on his head and feet, even for a hobbit.
Then the last one came to me. "Meriadoc Brandybuck. Merry for short."
"Well hello Sam, Pippin, and Merry. Why are you all heading to Rivendell?"
