Anira...
I thought that Gimli's words were a myth but seeing Fangorn Forest for what it really is, makes me believe Gimli. This forest was nothing like Lothlórien. Lothlórien was bright, tranquil and welcoming, while Fangorn is the exact opposite. It is dark, barely any light came into the dreaded forest. The trees were different, twisted trunks and branches that stretched out in odd ways. This place was dark, cold and made me feel unsafe.
I stuck closer to Legolas so I could feel more safe. I felt bad for Merry and Pippin. Having to end up in this dreary forest. Aragorn continued to lead the way, following the tracks he could make out. As we made our way through the forest I didn't see any small animals nor did I hear any; no birds, no squirrels, nothing.
At one moment Gimli noticed a black substance on the leaves. He wiped it off of the plant slowly putting it into his mouth. I've never seen anyone do that before, and I wish I hadn't. What if it were poisonous?
Gimli spat out the black substance, disgusted. "Orc blood." He reported.
Aragorn stopped, bending down to examine the tracks once again. "These are strange tracks." He said.
"How are they strange?" I frowned.
"They are two large for a Hobbit or an Orc." He reported. "These tracks belong to a large creature."
That isn't good for us or the Hobbits. Who knows what lurks in this forest.
"The air is so close in here." Gimli muttered.
"This forest is old." Legolas whispered. "Very old. Full of memory...and anger."
"This forest is in pain. Who would cause this pain?" I questioned. Groaning began to echo through the forest. Gimli raised his axe ready to fight. "The trees." I whispered.
"The trees are speaking to each other." Legolas noted.
"Gimli." I hissed. Gimli faced me his axe out and ready. I rolled my eyes and indicated with my hand to lower his axe. "Lower your axe."
"Oh!" Gimli exclaimed and lowered his axe. The groaning of forest began to fade.
Legolas smiled. "They have feelings my friend." He said looking around the tops of the trees.
"We Elves began it. Waking up the trees, teaching them to speak." I said. Looking around the tops of the trees as well.
"Talking trees?" Gimli grumbled. "What do trees have to talk about? Except the consistency of squirrel droppings."
We made our way through the forest, stepping over exposed roots. I listened carefully if the trees began to whisper again, but they did not. Suddenly Legolas stopped.
"Aragorn, nad no ennas." He said walking forward.
Aragorn stepped forward gazing into the forest. "Man cenich?"
Suddenly I felt a strange presence that something was coming towards us. The presence was powerful and dangerous.
"The White Wizard approaches." Legolas said.
Why? Why out all the things to stop us? Fear began to surge through my body, just at the thought that he was looking for me. The Orc said he desired my skills.
"Do not let him speak." Aragorn told us. "He will put a spell on us."
We all began prepare our weapons. Gimli raised his axe, Legolas drew his bow, and Aragorn unsheathed his sword. I drew my bow nocking back an arrow, letting out a deep breath to steady myself. Saruman is a dangerous enemy.
