Anira...
We sprinted out of the chamber and back into the city. Gandalf's staff was lit again, providing us light. I stayed close to the Hobbits, I didn't want them to get hurt, again. Screeches from behind caused me to turn towards the screeches. My eyes widened and my mouth gaped as I spotted the mass of incoming Orcs.
"This way!" Aragorn yelled and we ran into the direction Aragorn led us to. If he meant for us to avoid the Orcs that couldn't be done. They came at us from all sides, crawling out of holes in the ground and descending like spiders from the roof. The rest of the Fellowship stopped as the Orcs surrounded us. We stood back to back in a circle as the hundreds - maybe thousands of Orcs surrounded us.
We needed a miracle if we were to get out of the Mines alive. An Orc stared at me with it's eyes wide ready and eager to kill. It smiled creepily at me, I felt completely disgusted. Before the Orcs could attack, a low rumbling growl came from behind. I turned my head in its direction and I saw a dull fiery red light coming closer with each growl. Instead of attacking the Orcs began to panic. With screaming and chaotic movements they dashed back to where they came from. They ascended the columns and climbed back down into the holes. Whatever was approaching must be terrifying to send Orcs into a panicked stampede.
"What is this new devilry?" Boromir whispered.
"A Balrog," Gandalf murmured. My body shook, I have no idea on this what Balrog creature is. "A demon of the ancient world. This foe is beyond any of you. Run!"
We ran just as Gandalf commanded. I ran with the Hobbits so they wouldn't get left behind.
"Quickly!" Gandalf barked at us. He pushed us through a threshold and we stumbled inside of it. I groaned as we found another set of stairs - I hoped we wouldn't encounter any more stairs. Boromir led the way holding a flaming torch.
Just as Boromir reached the edge, the stairs collapsed. His torch fell down and I began to worry thinking he would fall, fortunately Legolas was quick enough to grab him and pull him back. A loud growl frightened me even more. The Fellowship charged down another set of stairs. I had never been afraid of heights before, I tried my best not to eye at the drop down because I would easily fall to my death.
"Hurry, Anira!" Boromir yelled. He grabbed my hand and led me down the stairs with him. I felt more safe knowing that Boromir wouldn't let me fall.
We rushed down the stairs, my eyes widened when we came to a stop. There was a large gap between the stairs, the only way to get across was to jump it. Legolas was the first to make the jump. He barely hesitated as he leaped through the air and landed safely on the other side.
"Gandalf!" He said motioning for Gandalf to jump. Gandalf jumped and landed safely on the side.
Then an arrow fires out of the air, narrowly missing Boromir and the hobbits. I snarled to see Orc archers line up on the edges in an attempt to shoot us. Legolas nocked an arrow and shot the arrow in the direction of the Orc. Boromir grabbed Merry and Pippin and jumped over the gap. Boromir and the Hobbits made it safely to the other side but the platform we had been standing on crumbled leaving us with an even larger gap to jump. Aragorn heaved Sam up to toss him across. I figured that it would be a while until I jumped, so I nocked an arrow back and fired it at one of the Orc archers. My arrow lodged itself into an Orc and it toppled to the chasm below. I looked back and Sam had made it safely across.
Aragorn made a move to pick Gimli up, but Gimli held his hand up in refusal. "Nobody tosses a dwarf."
With a yell, Gimli jumped across the gap. I panicked for moment when I saw him slip. Legolas lunged and grabbed ahold of his beard. "Not the beard!"
