Love From the Start Chapter Eight: It Started with a Reunion.
Alec Pov
I’m not really sure why I was so nervous about this interview. Taking pictures of people can’t be any harder than taking photos of buildings. They just talk… and move around… and make demands.
God I hope my model isn’t some prissy brat. Some of the guys that I worked with at my old job told me horror stories of the days they interned for models. They would throw tantrums bad enough to make children in their terrible twos look like angels. Throwing glass and screaming to the top of their lungs. I don’t want to deal with stuff like that.
I already forgot how rude people in New York could be. The cabbie tried to trick me into giving him more money than the ride actually cost. It was only a few blocks, but he charged me like it was an hour away. After arguing with him for about ten minutes he finally agreed to the appropriate price and I reluctantly paid him.
Afterwards I ran to Raphael’s office, already feeling horrible for making him wait. This interview was already going horribly wrong.
“Sorry it took me so long. The Taxi man was very rude and kept trying to lie about the price of the ride.”
“That’s why I never take a taxi,” Raphael sighed, nodding. I smiled slightly, happy that he was so understanding.
“How about we get started? Alec, his is going to be the model helping you out today. He’s a little difficult so I apologize ahead of time for anything he may say to you. Please don’t take it personally.”
I turned toward the model, the word ‘hello’ forming on my lips, but the moment my eyes met his, my mouth ran dry. Familiar green-gold eyes, beautiful slightly spiked up black hair, and breathtaking tan brown skin.
Magnus Bane was sitting right in front of me. Was I dreaming? Did I get killed out in the rain forest and not actually come home? Was I in a twisted version of heaven?
“Alec Lightwood, this is Magnus Bane,” Raphael said gesturing toward him.
Jonathan put his hand on Raphael’s arm smiling slightly at him. “They already know each other babe.”
Raphael looked at him confused and I ignored them both, just staring at Magnus. He stared back at me, his eyes not leaving mine for a moment, not even long enough to blink.
My heart pounded louder in my chest the longer we looked at each other. All the feelings I had the day I first saw him came flooding back. God, he was so stunning that day, sitting by the fountain reading a book. The sun set on him perfectly and I found myself looking over the picture of him I took, almost every day.
“Alexander… I can’t believe you’re here,” Magnus finally spoke as he stood up from his seat. At the moment I couldn’t believe he was here either. A part of me thought that I would never see him again.
“I got laid off,” was my stupid reply. Internally groaning, I closed my eyes. God i’m stupid.
“Who would be crazy enough to lay you off,” Magnus asked frowning, looking genuinely angry about it. That made me smile. Magnus was always my biggest fan when it came to my photos.
“They replaced him with a stupid computer,” Jonathan hissed, still mad about it. I swear he and Sebastian were more pissed about it than I was. Guess Magnus is going to be added to that list.
“What?! There’s no computer in the world that can do the amazing things that you can Alec. Did you try to fight their decision?”
“Of course I did. I wasn’t going to beg them though. I’m just grateful for the opportunity they gave me. It was enough. At least I got to follow my dreams, if not only for a year.”
