Chapter 31

~Alexis Kinley~

"I love you, Alexis Kinley."

He really cared. It was an insane, crazy truth and I wasn't afraid. I glanced at his face which looked a little worried as I hadn't said anything for the past few minutes.

"I...I..." I mumble and he waits looking into my eyes, expecting me to say it back. "I don't know- I don't..." I swallow with difficulty. "I really like you... I care about you and I know you're really important for me, but I don't think I... I'm completely shut myself out Niall, I don't want to go through that again and..." I say trailing off.

"Alex, you don't have to say it back. I can see how tense you are.  Don't say that, I know you're afraid, that you keep telling yourself that you are incapable of loving someone again. I'll never hurt you. Just please give us another chance, Alex."

I kept processing his words in my head, but before I could reply, someone was waiting at the other side of the door, causing the conversation between both of us to stop.

There was a knock on the door, and Ella walked in.

"Hey. How are you holding up?" She asked.

I shrugged, wincing slightly.

"Can I talk to you alone?" She looked pointedly at Alex.

"Yeah sure. Niall, can you please get me about thirty cups of water?" I asked.

He nodded, "I'll be back soon."

The second he was gone, Ella took his place. "So... did you two make up?"

I smiled, ignoring the question. She got the hint that I still have to think about it. "Where's David?"

"Right here." A voice said and I glanced up at the doorframe to see my older brother. He walked over and sat next to Ella.

"I came to say bye." David says.

"Bye? You're already going!" I ask.

"Yes I am, I'll be back soon. Don't miss me too much."

"Oh don't worry, I won't." I smirked.

"I just need to ask you one question." David said very seriously and I nodded. "While you were at the countryside, did you show anyone my action figures?" As soon as he said that I burst out laughing.

"Ella was playing with them." I say.

"What?" David exclaimed. He was cut off by his phone ringing. He answered it and walked towards the corner of the room.

"You didn't have to tell him that!" Ella exclaimed once he left.

David walks back to us. "I have to leave now." He says and guys me a side hug. Ella stands up and gives him a hug as well. But that lasted longer than usual. Weird.

"Good bye baby sis." David says walking out of the room.

"2 years!" I exclaim and I hear him laugh before leaving the Hospital room. I turn my head and face Ella.

"You like my brother don't you?" I ask her.

"What?!"

"It's obvious Ella, that hug lasted longer than usual." I say.

"What? Alex, it's nothing like that."

"You know what they say, my best friend's brother is the one for me." I say laughing.

"Same, old Alex." Ella says yawning.

"Ella, why don't you go get some rest? I'm fine here."

"Hell no. it's my turn tonight." Ella says being all sassy.

"Turn?"

"Yeah. Niall and I take turns. We choose who gets to stay with you." Ella explains.

"And where do you sleep?"

"On those chairs." Ella says pointing at the hard looking chairs at the end of the room.

"No wonder y'all look like hell." I say shaking my head in a disapproval manner.

"Shut up!"

"Ella, can I ask you something?" I ask and she nods. "What happened after I got shot?"

Ella sighs, "Well, you knew I was going to get our stuff from the car. On my way back, I heard a loud crack, I looked up to see you falling on your knees to the ground. I ran towards you, not bothering about the guns. I looked around and saw a man. He started backing away when he realized that he shot you instead of his target, Niall. We rushed you to the hospital and of course, the boys came as well." She explained. I remembered looking at the guy who was aiming his gun at Niall. Ella continued, "I later told the boys about the tapes and how they were fake. I also showed them the paper. And they managed to believe me."

"Wow. I was away for a long time."

"I'm glad your back, Alex." Ella says giving me a hug.

"Sorry to wake you Alex, but we need to tell you something." Harry says as he entered my room, followed by the other boys.

"What is it?" I mumbled.

"Well, we're really sorry we snapped at you the other day." Liam explains.

"It's okay, you don't have to apologize." I say.

"No we have to. We were so mean and we didn't even hear your side of the story." Louis says.

"So will you forgive us?" Zayn asks.

"I already did, a long time ago." I smiled.

"You can go back to sleep now." Harry says walking outside and the other boys following him.

By the end of the night, I knew what I wanted. I had my weaknesses, but I had to put those aside and go for what I really want.

For the first time, since the last few weeks, I fell asleep with a smile on my face. I had everything I wanted. Or, I will have everything I need.
